Looking for some great toddlers books. My daughter is three and loves story time. We have most of the Dr. Suess ones. She likes the big colorful ones. What are some of your toddlers favorite books?
As a side note: My best friend is a librarian and she got my daughter Pete the Cat and his white shoes and she LOVES it! Highly recommend that one!

Little Critter books are good. Always have some sort of lesson built in. Girls also like "Pinkalicious" or "Purpleicious". I voulnteer at my son's school library and those books would always be gone.
Lisa C listed so many of the books I was going to recommend! We also like The Very Hungry Caterpillar (but at the end use the word "chrysalis" instead of cacoon since that is technically correct) :), Ten Little Ladybugs, How Do I Love You?, "How Much is That Doggy in the Window," by Iza Trapini-one of my personal favorites, Leo Leonni books such as "A Color of His Own." Have fun!
Excellent question. Thanks for the recommendation. I absolutely love "touch the art" it teaches the about artists, their art and what museum all over the world where the painings are stored. My daughter is 4, she loves it. She just started school p/t and the teacher told me that she needs to brush up on art history:)

Any of the Donald Crews books (he has some about trains, and buses and maybe more).

How Much I Love You
There are also books, and I forget the author now, but I think it's something Greene. He makes these wonderfully illustrated books where you look for all the things of that letter. A page might be apes eating apples with astronauts....etc. Just go to the library and you pick an old favorite and she picks something new.
When my son was 3 he really started loving books:
Kiss, Kiss, Yuck, Yuck is sweet, and is his favorite.

I have a beautiful Night Before Christmas book and also The Cajun Night Before Christmas.
We go to the library and just pick out random colorful books to try. He loved the 3 Little Pigs, Boy Who Cried Wolf, Jack & the Beanstalk, etc and we found some neat versions with lovely illustrations.
Now that he's 4 he also loves:
Roald Dahl's "Just So Stories" (he loves those, lol)
Several series books (Arthur, Martha Speaks, Berenstein Bears, Curious George, and Skip JonJones)
And I also read him "big boy books" that I know he's interested in the subject matter (Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Where the Pirates Are, Ralph Miller books, Black Beauty).
I do NOT like girly pink stuff (gag), but I read the Pinkalicious books to the 3 year old neighbor while babysitting, and those are quite cute, especially the one about purple.
The Llama Llama series is cute!
Ha. Someone on here recommended Pete the Cat last week. There's another one too: Pete and his School Shoes. I like White shoes better, but School Shoes would be good for a first-time school-goer.
My 3.5 yr old loves:
- non fiction. NIC BISHOP has the best photographs of animals!
- Llama Llama books. There's a new one where he stays home with M. b/c he's sick.
- anything with a cat or dog on it. Recently we got "Why do I have to Eat off the floor?" and he liked it. Nothing beats Pete the Cat though.
- We like author Mo Willems. We liked Knuffle Bunny, granted we saw the show on tv - Between the Lions, so perhaps that's why we liked it.
Silly Sally by Audrey Wood
My MIL does reading in local schools and sent this one to our daughter because it was such a hit with the kids. It's also won a book award. It's a fun, silly story with colorful, happy pictures.

Looks like a lot of people recommended that one.
Any of the 'No David' books are great. My kids love them. Also the Eric Carle books (I see a few mentioned below). Goodnight Gorilla is still a favorite. I love it because there's so much you can get them to think about with the pictures. I mean, all it really says is goodnight to a bunch of different animals, but it's fun to talk about the zookeeper, the animals getting out of the pens, then walking home & his wife waking up. Her reaction to the animals. It's a very cute book for bed or naptime.
