Going Back to Work? - Bismarck,ND

My husband and I realize that I probably have to go back to work. Money is getting tight and health insurance at my husband's job is very expensive. My daughter is 3 months old. I basically go back and forth about how I feel about going back to work. On one hand, the extra money will be nice and being able to provide for all the things I wants for my daughter is good but on the other hand, I'm devastated at the thought of putting her in day care. I don't have a job yet but I am starting to send out applications.

How do I cope? And how do I find a daycare that I can both afford and not feel guilty about leaving my baby there?

What can I do next?

Unless you have a career that pays a lot, if you are looking for a new job you may find that your income isn't much more than what you'll have to pay for infant daycare. Can you work during the hours you husband doesn't work so you don't have to pay for day care?

I put my dd in a home daycare. I interviewed her and observed her with the other kids a couple of times. And most important, my dd liked her. I got a list every day of when she ate, how much, when her diaper was changed, etc. It was very nice. Dropping her off every day is hard, but knowing that she's well taken care of makes it easier.

I am currently working full-time, but just started with another company part-time to bring in extra money. Right now, it’s helping us save money on some of our monthly purchases and bring in some extra income. And some day I will probably be able to work from home exclusively. That is what this company does. It helps moms work from home to have more time with their families. Let me know if you want more information. This is something you could try now and may make the decision for you to stay home a little easier.

I think one of the financial aspects to look at is will you really make enough money to make it worth it? Daycare for an infant is incredibly expensive and most people find they end up working to pay for daycare.

We had our first when my husband was in dental school and I was the only one working. I was put on bed rest and my son was born 8 weeks early and even if I'd wanted to I wouldn't have been able to go back to work. And you know what we did? We tightened our belt and I stayed home. And it was the best decision we ever made. We didn't go out to dinner very often, didn't buy much in the way of extras, I used coupons like crazy, planned menus and made things from scratch and my son could have cared less. There is so much you can do with and for a little one that doesn't involve buying things and wants. At the end of the day, your daughter will remember that you were always there with her and for her not the new clothes or toys that she had.

I completely understand when mom and dad both have to work but I just wanted to put my story out there to you that it is sometimes possible to make huge changes in your lifestyle.
