Giving Sitter Notice

My sons (20 mo. and 6 mo.) are currently at a babysitter. My oldest has been there since he was 3 mo. We are going to switch the boys to a center when my youngest is one (Feb.). I'm switching so that they will be in more of a learning environment and we moved so the sitter is now much farther from our house. My question is how much notice/when should I tell the sitter that we are going to be switching? I figured that I need to give at least a month notice but do I need to give more than a month?

As a home daycare provider, I have it inmy contract 2 weeks notice is needed, either way. If I choose not to keep someone as a client any longer I will give them 2 weeks notice, and I expect the same in return. If you know for a fact you are going to take your children elsewhere in Feburary, let her know as soon as possiable. I'm sure she counts on you as a source of income, and the sooner you let het know the sooner she can find someone to replace your children. Taking a cut in pay can be hard for some people, so I would give ample notice.

Give her as much notice as possible. Once you have everything set up at the other daycare I would give her your ending date. Sometimes it takes more then a month to fill one spot and she will need to fill two spots!

As the others have said, I would let her know as soon as you know. As someone who has not only used in-home care in the past, as well as being an in-home provider now ... I have always given my babysitters notice as soon as I knew that things would be changing, I thinnk it should be at least two weeks, if not more. For instance, I had someone watching my children when I was working outside the home and it ended up that I would be quitting my job, I gave her the same 2 week notice that I gave my boss. Well, things happened and I didn't end up needing her the last week, but I still paid her for that week because she was looking at having that income during the time, so I thought it was only fair to her :)

As a childcare provider now, I would like to have as much notice as possible, it's very hard to fill a spot sometimes and it's nice to know ahead of time when you'll have that opening, so you can get to work filling it as soon as possible. There are many childcare providers out that that depend on that income and have a very hard time going without it for any amount of time, much less when it comes unexpectedly.

I would give her as much notice as possible. Since your not leaving on bad terms it would be most considerate to give her as much time as possible to find replacements for your children in her daycare business. At the very least I would give her 2 weeks notice as you would a job.

Both of my children have been in home daycares. I would let her know as soon you know (as soon as spots have been confirmed at the other place, etc.) She will need time to fill those spaces.

The one time I had to give a home daycare short notice (long story, but it wasn't the DCP's fault, just weird circumstances) we paid her for an extra couple of weeks that we didn't use. And I felt guilty for not being able to give more notice.

Hi T.,
As a daycare provider, I also agree that asap would be great. A 2 month notice is very helpful as this is like getting a major reduction in your salary until replacements are found. The more time, the better.

Well T. with being an child Care Provider myself here in Calumet City I would say read your contract and it should be stated in the contract about termination policy however, a month notice is fabulous it will allow the provider to start advertising the opening. Go with God and all will work out for you and yours

Having a daycare myself, I really like to have PLENTY of notice to give me time to find more kids to fill the spot. I would say to give her at least a month or more if you can.
