Last year I got the dish towel as another Mama mentioned. Two years ago, I got a necklace made from those foam forms. It was a flower design and my daughter had put a "rhinestone" in the middle. It was tied with that satin type string to make a necklace. I loved it and actually wore it....silly but sentimental.

Depending on how old your daycare kids are, I would love to get a plaster of paris (I think thats how its spelled lol) stone thingy of my daughters hand print.

Depending on how old the kids are of course... one year I did a flower finger paint project where the kids put green finger paint on their forearm. Made 3-4 stems on the the page and then their handprints were the flower on top. I then purchased some inexpensive picture frames and framed them. All the Parents LOVED it!

Good Luck!

A couple of years ago I made small photo albums for my families, they didn't really cost much.

When I worked at daycare we did small flower pots. The kids painted small terracotta pots you can get at the craft store for less than a quater each and then they "planted" one small flower into the pot. About 3 dollars for 6 flowers...maybe less. Dirt is free..I'm sure you have some paint laying around but if not it still would be less than a dollar per kid.

The best gift I ever got, and still have from both daughters is their hand print and they printed on the page, "I love you, mommy" then printed their name. Simple, but very precious.

one year I got a bookmark made by my child. On a piece of paper 1 1/2 inches wide and 8 inches long they glued a 4 inch green piece of yarn for a stem. Then made a paper dot for the middle of a flower. They made the petals by dipping a finger in paint and then on the paper six times around the middle dot. Then put the saying "This pretty flower that you see, was made for you by me. My finger made the flower part, showing love from my heart". I still have it and can cherish those tiny finger prints.

Some of the gifts i've had my daycare kids make over the past were, hand towels with the kids handprints/names on them, small decorative stepping stones with their footprints and then had the kids put colored pebbles in to decorate/and their name, had them make fingerprint flowers on a pot and we put a flower in it, magnets with their pictures, sun catchers. They always had fun making them and they all came out very unique.

What about those flower pots where you can have your kids color the wrap-around label?
Oriental Trading sells them:

OH! Just remembered this from preschool--this poem in a card with a handprint. I still can't read it without crying!

I miss you when we're not together
I'm growing up so fast
See how big I've gotten
Since you saw me last?
As I grow, I'll change a lot,
The years will fly right by.
You'll wonder how I grew so quick
When and where and why?
So look upon this hand print (these hand prints)
That's hanging on your wall.
And memories will come back of me,
When I was very small.

Hands down the best mom's gift I got from my daughter's daycare was a potted flower-- What made it so special was that they took several photos of my daughter planting the flower (she was about 18-24 mos. at the time), then put the photos on a card with her handprints. I'm sure the planters came from the $1 store, and they just bought a flat of petunias and some potting soil. Not expensive at all, but I just loved seeing photos of my daughter actually doing the planting. I imagine you could do the same thing with any craft-- take photos of the kids making it and make a card with the photos.

A photo of child in a frame decorated by child with a quote from the child about Mom. Even just a card with the kids words on it. My most prized things from my children were the sweet things they said.......didn't even have to be about me. There is brilliance in what kids say.

Haven't looked at anyones response, but have you looked at Oriental Trading? Go to their website and look under crafts. They have a ton! We use them for the gifts we give parents at Christmas and Mother's Day for the preschool I teach at. Usually inexpensive. And what ever money you spend is a tax right off, so don't fret too much about the cost. Oriental is usually under a $.25 0 $1.50 for most of their crafts, depending on how elaborate.
Good luck and God Bless.

You can get small terra cotta planters and let the kids decorate them. Then let them plant seeds now that can grow indoors now so they have a flower or plant growing my Mothers Day.

Take pictures of the kids and use them as centers of flowers (glue petals around the pictures).
