My daughter must of had a spider in her bed last night. This morning when she got up she had been bitten all over, 22 times!!! The bites are red and some are a little more swollen than others. She has gotten spider bites before, but not this many. I don't want to use amonia based afterbite all over her. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for all of your wonderful advice. I did take my daughter to the doctor, and he said it looked like spider bites to him but he couldn't be sure. Needless to say, he was not a big help. I did some searching online for home remedies and several mentioned a baking soda paste applied to the bites. I went to the store to get more baking soda, and happened to see something called "Afterbite for kids." It has things like baking soda and tea tree oil in it. It worked wonders! In just a few hours the redness and swelling had gone down tremendously. After 2 days of applying the afterbite, her bites are almost gone. I do wonder if it really was a spider though. It seems as though she gets these bites everytime my neice comes over, and she had happened to come over 2 days before. Hmmmm... anyway, we bombed the house, and washed everything, and she is doing just fine. Again, Thank you all for your suggestions. It is so nice to be able to rely on a great network of women for advice!

I would have Clarke or another reputable pest control come check for bed bugs. My daughter came home from a friends house with what she thought was fleas and it turns out they are infested with bed bugs!! She should definitly be seen by her doctor as well. If they get infected she will not be a comfortable little girl. Good luck and I hope she is feeling better soon!

I would call the doctor ASAP. That many bites should be looked at. Or maybe it's a rash and not bites?

I use Burt's Bees Bite Relief or Rescue Ointment on bites, but with that many I'd call...

Hope she's fine!

Hi C.,
How do you know they are spider bites? From what I've read, most bites are misdiagnosed as spider bites. It also seems odd to have 22 bites. Could it possibly be fleas? Regardless of what bit her, I L. my Benadryl pen for all bites and stings. Our neighbor's little boy got a bee sting on his heel which started to swell almost immediately and the ammonia afterbite did nothing. A few seconds after applying the Benadryl the pain, swelling and blanching was almost gone. If you are having that many problems with spiders I suggest getting your house sprayed. We have ALOT of spiders inside and outside our home, I've even woken up with one crawling on me once or twice but have never been bit.
Sincerely,
L.

OMG... that is awful. I think I would begin by calling pest control and having your home fumigated. And, I think I would be taking her to a doctor to be sure she is okay. 22 bites is way too many for anyone.

Hi C. -

Please take your daughter to the doctor. Recently, a friend's teenage daughter was bitten many times in her bed and it was from a baby Black Widow Spider. She needed medication and was quite ill. Hope this helps.
