New user of this group. 10 weeks pregnant with twins. Will have to go back to work and money will be tough for two in daycare. I would prefer a nanny. Wanted to see what group has for suggestions, etc. Have no idea how much cost to expect, typical requirements, etc. Really anyone who has used a nanny would be so helpful. How do you find one in your area that you can afford?

What can I do next?

I have some friends who are nannies. They are wives of students at Dallas Theological Seminary. If you want a reliable, Christian nanny who is most probably married and in her 20's, I'd suggest you advertise (I think for free) on the DTS job board. Go to www.dts.edu or try to call the seminary. Let me know if you need any more information, but I know you will find someone wonderful if you advertise here.

I have used a nanny so far for my 2 year old daughter. I advertised in an ethnic newspaper and also used a particular nanny agency.

I dont know how safe it is to disclose so much information here but feel free to email for info. we can chat on phone.

S., congratulations on your twins! Mine will be five months old this week. (I also have a 2.5-year-old.)

After a fairly extensive and pretty lengthy search, I finally found a nanny from the NDMOTC (North Dallas Mother of Twins Club) bulletin board. I got most of my leads from networking: talking to people at my toddler's MDO program, the pediatrician's office, my neighborhood ECPTA, my husband's office, my playgroup... pretty much everyone I could think of. I also posted a flyer at the Dallas seminary (but got no responses) and checked craigslist-dfw. I did check with a couple of agencies but never signed up with one.

Including taxes, we're paying her about $11.50/hr. for a 40-hour workweek. In my search, I found that that was in the middle- to low-end of the local salary range... but I'm a stay-at-home mom and couldn't rationalize paying someone $15/hr. for someone who's basically a mother's helper. But your situation may be different.

I hope that helps! Best of luck to you.

I recommend you join a twins' club - www.ndmotc.org is the North Dallas group and meets 1st Thurs. of the month at Richardson Regional Hospital at Campbell and 75 (around there). Great resource for twin everything and we have a fabulous garage sale twice a year - you can buy (and eventually sell) everything from maternity clothes to cribs, strollers, etc. for babies. Good luck on the nanny thing.
