Gas Drops Anyone??

Anyone have any experience or advice regarding gas drops and their effectiveness? How about Colic Calm (i googled gas drops and this is appearently a holistic drop for gas etc)? I have never used them (on my second child now) and am thinking my almost 5 month daughter may benefit from them as the past month has been kind of tough on the tummy! Any advice would help!
A little more info: She's breast fed & supplemented with formula while I'm at work.. been doing well with this since 6 weeks of age - and no problems. We did get the go ahead at her 4 month dr appointment to start giving her foods, however, we backed off the food because she started pooping like crazy, even waking up in the middle of the night to do it which caused her to get a crazy bum rash :( Ouch! Needless to say she hasn't had any food for the last two weeks to let her bum get back to normal as well as her digestive system. Although she still poops like crazy lol. I don't think she's entirely ready for everyday foods at this time (so unlike my 1st he had 8 teeth at 4 months and had NO problems with gas when eating anything) We will probably wait another month to start trying again with the exception of a little rice cereal.

What can I do next?

I had really good luck with the mylicon drops with both of my kids. They work really well if the issue is truly gas pain - not colic or something else. They're just baby gas-x, which does work well in adults too.

The other nice thing is that they're not absorbed by the body, so there's almost zero risk of giving too much (I think you're not supposed to give more than 12 doses per day!).

Good luck.

I had to use the Mylicon gas dropped for my daughter when she was an infant. Well, I used CVS brand, just because they are cheaper and the same thing. I used the gas drops when I thought she had a belly ache (her belly would be really super duper hard), and I would give her the drops and she would fart like crazy, and she wouldn't be as whiney and her belly wasn't hard anymore.

I also never started my daughter on solids (jar food) until she was around 8 months old. I just have her either rice or oatmeal with a little bit of baby fruit mixed in with it. My (well her) doctor didn't recommend it. But, I think every doctor and baby are different.

Even though you didn't ask....I totally recommend Calmoseptine for diaper rash. That stuff works awesome!!! Everything else I have tried (diaper paste, Desitin, A&D) never stacked up to that!!! They use it in hospitals and such, and it works sooooooooo good. I would put it on the rash, and within the next changing (sometimes 2nd changing if its a bad rash) it's gone! Google it :) It's even the same price as all the other stuff.

Gas drops work by making all the little bubbles into big bubbles. So in theory, babies should be able to burp them up more easily. For my DD, she didn't burp them up, so she had bigger gas bubbles in her intestines and they HURT her. Cried for hours and hours. So if you do use them, make sure you burp, burp and burp some more. GL!

I used "little tummys", it was great, and is non-medicated.

I used gripe water for my babes. Works great.
Do you drink milk/eat a lot of dairy? Drink a lot of caffiene? Those things could be giving her gas. They certainly have a big impact on my kids.

W/ my son I also have used Hyland's Colic Tablets and they work too.

I would definitely wait on solids. There is just no reason to rush it.
Hope that helps! :) GL!

I swear by milicon (or the generic brand). My ped said that you can not o.d. your child on them since there really isn't any med's in them. We also used grip water. Both seemed to help us out. We did gas drops before, during and at the end of each meal.

I used Mylicon and Little Tummy's gas drops for all my kids. No issues and they seemed to work wonderfully. Sometimes just a little bit of the gas drops settled my youngest and that's all she needed. I tried some kind of holistic colic stuff (don't remember the name sorry) and it didn't do anything.
