Garage Door Color

I would get white mainly because colors fade. You can still trim out the shutters in whatever color you like.

Black sounds best, I would shop around and find it, but you might get away with grey if it is dark enough.

You could pick any color as long as you paint your front door too!:) all those colors would look good with your red brick, I would be partial to the gray and brown. And if you got shutters to match, it would look awesome! I have had black before and although it looks great at first it attracts the sun like crazy, it is very h*** o* the paint and the doors. It fades quickly too and maintenance is required often. I personally would stay away from black, unless it would be out of the sun most of the time.

I vote for matching the doors. You want some connectivity between the two buildings.....& the barn should match/coordinate with the house. You want your eye to flow....not jump around. That's also "why" your window coverings should be the same from the outside of your home.....to allow the eye to flow over the facade of the home & not jump/linger on one red window, one white window, one Transformers window!

And as far color, I'm a color freak! My house is grey with red shutters & a putty colored front door. It works nicely....

This is something that works well for me when I'm trying to choose a color like you are. I make a drawing of our house, etc. and then make a bunch of copies. Then I just take crayons and color the pictures. It's not high-tech but it really gives me an idea of what I like or don't like. (If you have trouble making the drawing of your house, take a photo and you can make a copy from that.)

Generally, the color of a garage is painted to match the color of the siding (or if you don't have siding as you mentioned) the color of the trim.

In our neighborhood, all the houses have garages the same color as the trim/siding. Same for my parent's neighborhood.

Great question! Never thought about this but now that you mention it both my front door and our garage doors are "pecky cypress" (i.e. a dark wood color). Our house color is a very deep yellow so it is pretty.

I like the green idea for you - could look beautiful with your brick. Black (painted?) could be very nice too, especially with the matching shutters.

You might want to drive neighborhoods in your area and get ideas (snap some photos on your digital camera). That's what we did when we designed the elevation of our house.

I love the black idea, and even though it doesn't come in that color, you can always paint it, I am sure. The green would look great with your red brick as well, with a green door.

Our garage doors are the same color as the trim on our house which is a light brownish tone.

We do have HOA that have nothing better to do than spy and tattle on people. UGH However, at the same time...the HOA has benefits. I guess it's a wash.

I'm guessing you don't any Home Owners Association who might have rules about what colors are allowed. We have beige siding, white trim, black shutters, white garage doors and a black front door (it came with that color when we bought it). The afternoon sun shines on the front door, and it gets HOT. I've almost scorched myself on it while pushing it open a few times. If I change my front door color, a bright red would work with the other colors (and would look nice with a white yarn Christmas wreath we put up over the holidays). My front door faces west, my garage doors face the north and you can't see both at the same time. Whether your front door has to match your garage doors depends upon if you can see them both at the same time.
