Hi Moms! You all are always so helpful I thought I'd ask you this too :) I'm throwing a bridal shower for my sister and am wondering if any of you have come up with or played any really fun games at a bridal shower? I'm hoping to stay away from toilet paper and quizzes about how well everyone knows the bride since some in the group will have known her very well her whole life and others (from her fiances side) who don't know her nearly as well. Thanks!

Update: I just have to reply to Christina. I totally agree - if it were my friends and my party it would be a cocktail party all the way. However, most of the guests are not big drinkers. They prefer Diet Pepsi over a good cocktail :(

Why not skip the games and go straight to the tapas and cocktails? I really can't stand doing games at adult parties. I honestly can't think of any "getting to know you" games that people really enjoy and aren't just kind of a hassle.

Added: Ok. Well it sounds like a nightmare to me. BUT, what about setting up a few game tables? With playing some apples to apples? Or Scene it?

I also am not really a game person... I think some of my husband's female friends had a little mini-shower for me after we were married and had some kind of game where they had asked him questions and they took turns reading them and I had to guess his answers. I don't think that would be very fun, personally. I would probably rather just do something idiotic like play Trivial Pursuit in teams, or you could play "two truths and a lie" with everyone. Other than the quasi-shower I had I have never actually been to a bridal shower. Unsociable I guess. I don't enjoy being forced to do anything humiliating when all I wanted to do was come and wish someone well, which is why I also don't really like baby showers. Good luck. Maybe you could come up with something fun that has to do with famous couples (successful couples mostly) in history or literature or popular culture, whichever the bride is more interested in.

One game I have seen, that was a lot of fun, was Bridal shower Bingo. We were given blank "bingo" cards and asked to fill in the squares with items we thought the presents were. As the bride opened the gifts, you marked off a square if you had guessed that. The first person to get a bingo won a small prize.

Another idea is the Alphabet game. You give people a hand out with the letters of the alphabet down the side of the page and ask them to come up with a word related to weddings that starts with that letter. You make it a timed game and at the end of your time, the person with the most words wins. For this game, you may need a couple of smaller prizes in case more than one person wins.

My sisters theme was beach... so we did guess how many salt water taffys in a iced tea pitcher. The winner got to keep it. We also made our own bingo with their names and beach themed items. We did the timer game. I love this one. When the she is opening the gifts you set a timer for random times. When it goes off the person who's gift she is opening gets to pick a gift out of a basket. It really helps to get through the gifts in a fun way for all. Really... how much china and crystal can you oooh and ahhh at? lol!!

Hope you have a great shower!!

Even though I begged my mom not to have games, she did anyway. Lets see we had make the bride her bling (people were divided into groups and had to make jewelry out of twist ties and candy), rice/safetypins (try to find as many as possible in a certain amount of time), she had people make lists for a honeymoon survival kit, we did the classic toilet paper wedding dresses, wedding items were placed on a tray and shown to the guests, then they had to write down what they remembered, clothespin game (steal people's who say bride, groom, wedding). We had a ton. Hope this helps and good luck!
Oh and I went to one were the quizzes they had were more like puzzles. The had a word search with wedding terms, aMAZing Love (a maze in the shape of a heart) stuff like that.

If you go to www.beau-coup.com they have games you can play, like bingo. You could do a trivia game just about the wedding, like what are the colors, the name of the church, what time the wedding starts, etc. One game I played at a baby shower was the price is right, they did it with baby items, you could do it with some of the stuff from her registry, or like a nightie, a book on how to keep the romance alive, silly things, like shaving cream and a razor.

I am the shower expert! I have thrown showers for people I wasnt even that close with just because I love to. The most popular shower games are the toilet paper wrap (design a bridal gown), purse scavenger hunt (design a list of obscure objects and have every one look through their purses for who has the most items on the list), bridal bingo (using a simple bingo grid, have your guest fill in common bridal gifts, then as the bride is opening her presents they can mark off any matching presents).

I have one but it's not a game. I recently went to a bridal shower and the hostess had hired a psychic to come to their home for the shower. We all got to ask questions and she would do palm readings too. Don't know if there was any truth to any of it but we had a blast! We had do much fun and laughs and two years later we still talk about how fun Steaphanie's shower was.

we recently had a shower for my sister, and we really liked this game: we bought pound cakes and cake frosting and decorations, told everyone that the bakery that was making our cake went out of business and now they had to make our cake. we gave them about 20 minutes and each table decorated their own cake. very fun and interesting!

My SIL did some fun things for my shower, this was a shower for the people from church and my neighborhood, not my same age girlfriends. First she had every guest bring a dish towel with a nice thought in it or well wishes - so i have a ton of dish towels, I still haven't had to buy one 5 years later. One of the games was actually a drawing - she had the guests address their own thank you note envelope and then drew a winner (this was nice because all of the envelopes were already addressed and people laughed as they thought they were getting mail from themselves). Another funny thing was that she had the guests breakup into teams of 2 and decorate potatoes like brides and grooms (I don't remember what they used, but it was funny). And she asked my husband a list of questions about himself that I had to answer in front of everyone. Each time I got one wrong I had to chew a piece of bubble gum. People thought that was pretty fun.
That was nice to review those memories. Good luck.

We played this game as table (probably 8 tables of 4-8) but you could do pairs. My aunt found 9 pairs of black and white photos of couples on their wedding day and 50 year anniversary. She copied them, put them on notecards, shuffled them and put them in baggies (one set per table). We had 2 mins to match the pairs. I would steer clear of family photos, noting your demographic.
Another game- put new kitchen utensils in tube socks tied with ribbon, lay them on the ground with a number by each "station" Give guest a notecard numbered with the same number of "socks". With their feet (no hands allowed) have them figure out what is in the socks. The one with the most wins! It does require taking off shoes, but it is a great game to do during open mingling or all at once.

I saw one at a friend's shower that was cute...someone had talked to the groom before hand and asked him a bunch of questions, like favorite food, favorite movie, name of first pet, etc. and written down all the answers. Then the bride had to answer them...for each one she got wrong she had to shove a gumball in her mouth. It was pretty comical really! You could also use marshmallows or something else I'm sure!

Something else that was fun, although not really a game, is to write down everything she says while opening presents (and not tell her). Then read the list back to her as the things she'll be saying on her wedding night to her hubby. Also hilarious and you end up getting things like gorgeous, oh it's so cute, etc. etc. Kinda kinky but super fun!

You could also put together a book for her and then have people write their best marital advice in it and sign their name. YOu can just pass out pages and pens and have people write their stuff and then collect and assemble. Even if people aren't married, they can add a little something....everyone knows at least some sort of relationship advice!

You could play Bridal Scattegories. You can google it but basically it amounts to choosing 3 letters (maybe the bride's initials) and they have to come up with answers to 10 wedding related questions (like colors of a bridesmaid's dress, honeymoon destinations, words to describe a bridezilla, etc.) Set a timer and let everyone work. Those who comes up with a unique (as in no one else thought of that) gets a point for their answer. The person(s) with the most points wins.

These games are usually to help time pass better, especially if some of the guests do not know each other well (women who have come alone and have no one to talk to) These games can be played before lunch is served.

I'm not into the games as much myself, but I've been to quite a few showers where I didn't know the rest of the guests and filling out a crossword puzzle, how well you know the bride, etc really beats just sitting there. :) I highly recommend the bingo game as the gift opening is the longest part of the event.

I hate the toilet paper game, it's so messy, however I recently went to a shower where they used tissue paper instead and the finished dresses came out beautiful. There's more control and they even let the girls use tape.

Each woman is given a clothespin to clip to the end of her skirt/dress. The purpose of the game is to NOT get caught crossing your legs at any time throughout the bridal shower. If one of the other guests catch you crossing your legs then she can grab your clothespin. The guest who collects the most clothespins, wins the game. This can be played throughout the whole shower, no need to set a special time for this game.

Choose 10 - 15 words such as: Church, wedding dress, garter, rings, flowers etc., and scramble them up. Example: 1) ruchch = church 2) dingdwe sreds - Wedding dress. Give your guests about 10 minutes to figure out the words. The guest with the most words spelled correctly wins

Hope this helps! :)

For my shower my mom sent a blank recipe card with the invitation and asked that everyone contribute their favorite recipe. I love to cook, so it was neat to get a bunch of new things to try.

Also, I like the purse game too. You can get really creative with it, like coins from the year the bride was born. I did a version once where points were assigned to each item (more points for the rarest items) and the person who had the most points won.
