I am hosting a Bridal Shower in a few weeks and need some ideas for a few games to play. Something new, creative and short - non of the usual games of the past. I don't want the guests walking away annoyed that they had to play games. I got great gifts to give away to the winners, so it will be worth their time.

What can I do next?

I just hosted a bridal shower this weekend. It was a lingerie bridal shower and we played a scratch off game.

They also have one with a bride on it at this website. We also played the A-mazing Love maze. It is on clearance right now for $2.99. They sent me a coupon for 10% off through Sept. 29th if you use the coupon code: shops.

Everyone had fun and they were two easy games. I also found some inexpensive favors at this website.

I like the bridal bingo game, and this is another game that has been a hit at bridal showers that I have been to: Purse Scavenger Hunt. Each guest is given a list of items to look for in their purse, and the person with the most items found (in a given amount of time) wins a small prize. If you do a search for "purse scavenger hunt," you will get different hits with different list ideas. A variation is to have each item worth a different number of points. The most obscure/random the item, the more points it is worth. It is pretty amazing what some people carry in their purses. :)

Hope that this helps! Have fun!

You can play bingo while she opens the gifts. Instead of the card saying "BINGO" on the top, put her new last name. Before she starts opening have everyone fill in the boxes of what they think she will get. Then as she opens certain gifts the guests can check off their card until they get a bingo. You can hand out prizes for the top three or however many gifts you got. It's just a good one to keep people from getting bored while watching what can sometimes take forever.

A fun one is to have guests match celebrity spouses names together (matching game on paper) but make sure to pick some with whacky names! Or there is this site where you can enter your own questions (could make them about bride and groom) and it makes a crossword puzzle for you. You can print a free copy as long as you allow the advertising to be on the top. Its called www.custompuzzles.com and is a very neat idea...

Those are different I think, good luck!

C.,
I went to a bridal shower awhile back, and we played a game that was alot of fun, and very touching. Here's how I remeber it working:
We were all told to grab some M&M's from a bowl that was passed around. Some grabbed 2-3, some grabbed a whole handful. We were told not to eat them, but count them. Once we had all chosen whether to be good or bad with the M&Ms, we were told the game. Everyone had to say something they knew about the bride-to-be; how many things we had to say were determined by how many M&Ms we grabbed! It was alot of fun, and it was a great opportunity to bless the bride-to-be with kind words!

This was a a fun game I did for a shower, and all enjoyed it. Make "bridal bingo" cards on the computer (really easy), filling in each square with an item from the couple's registry, or just traditional bridal gifts. Change the order in the squares so that no 2 cards are alike. While the bride-to-be opens her gifts, the guests mark their cards if the gift she opens is listed. The first to "bingo" wins. Adds a little fun to the gift opening. Enjoy the shower!

If you don't want annoyed guests, then don't have any games whatsoever. I hate all games for showers. I'd rather use the time to socialize than make a dress of toliet paper for the bride or any other "original" game you find online.

come up with a list of questions to ask the groom about him, her, them, the wedding - color of bridesmaid dresses, etc..
get the grooms answers but make sure he knows not to talk to his bride about them
then at the shower tell the bride you are going to ask her the same questions you asked the groom and see how close their answers are
the tricky part is she will have to figure out how to answer them - the way he would have, the ways he thinks she would have, etc...
it has been very funny at the couple of parties i have helped to host

Have sheets of paper with the bride's new name and set a time limit to see who can make the most words using the letters in her name. IE - Susan Snyder... sun, dear, sand, ann, etc.

The last bridal shower I hosted, I made a "celebrity bride game". Get a bridal magazine and select several of the pictures of wedding dresses. Then you take an exacto knife and cut out the faces...replace the faces with pictures of celebrities from People, etc. Use anyones face (including male actors). Tape the face into the cut out space of the bride and then mount the whole thing onto cardstock. Number the pictures and give each person a list with corresponding numbers to fill in the name of the celebrity they think it is. It is a fun and funny game that everyone seemed to enjoy. I hope my description makes sense, but if not feel free to ask me any questions. Have fun!

I've been to a few showers and never known anyone to be annoyed to play games...although one game is probably enough. Games keep things going, integrated the less well known at the party, and adds lots of laughs. Did the wedding dress it was good.

Ooooh, how I don't look forward to shower games. I liked one: Every guest wrote down 5 things that they supposedly had done but only one was true. THey all seemed rather surprising and out of character. The honoree had to guess which one was the true one. If the Honoree guessed wrong, they got a little prize.

We got many laughs out of that one and it helped with conversation starters when we mingled later. Course, two people said things that, well, even the one that was true was probably something that they shouldn't have told about themselves. One of them my daughter was embarrassed to guess anyone of them could be true. You don't have much control out of what comes out of their mouths!

Consider something that helps people get to know each other. Prizes for the people that travelled the furtherest, non-family that knows the honoree the longest, has the most children, who has the longest name, etc.

The ones I like the best are the ones that have good tasting hot and cold appetizers with a pitcher of good, fruity martinis or white wine or a good punch. Cake is eaten while the honoree opens presents.

Hints on presents. Many treat it as found loot. They don't call out the persons name, look up, acknowledge them, say thanks. They might say "ooooh" or "wow" and then softly say the giver's name to the friend recording them. That's it. Our family goes even further by getting up to go hug the gift giver. Also, start with the smallest presents and work up to the biggest presents.

beyond a game of 'sculptorades' (charades played with playdough, a la cranium), i don't have any new suggestions. i really just want to say what a good idea the previously suggested gift bingo game is. how wonderful it would be to go to a shower and have an activity during the gift opening to take the pressure off the bride as well as the guests (oooh ahhhh wow...there's only so much you can say before you're just sitting there in silence waiting for the train to reach the station, ykwim)?
