Full Period (Not Just Spotting) Possible When Pregnant?

I know the very state of being pregnant does not allow for ovulation so an actual 'period' not possible. I also know that many times there is implantation bleeding or bleeding/spotting if you lose the pregnancy. My question is if anyone has ever personally experienced, in their pregnancy, an actual period-like few days, when their period was due, for several months in a row, but still been pregnant? I can only imagine those moms who had 'no idea' and gave birth in a toilet somewhere got their 9 months of 'periods'? I'm fine either way, just confused..............

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So, I took a pregnancy test I had laying around this morning and it said not pregnant, so not going to think about it anymore. Maybe I'll be one of those women you hear about in the news who goes to the bathroom and has a baby :) Unlikely since I'm 100 pounds soaking wet and should be able to tell.... If I keep gaining weight like this (gained 5 pounds in 3 weeks, unheard of for me!) I'll go see the doctor and get my thyroid or hormones checked out. thanks all!

Hi, I did not know I was pregnant until I the end of my first trimester! I got light periods for 3 months after I got pregnant so I did not think I was pregnant, I suspected I was bec. of a.m. sickness, etc. But for the first 3 mos of my pregnancy, I had light periods and then at the end of the third month I went to an obgyn, and I tested positive for pregnancy. My baby was already 3 mos old inside my womb.

I had my period with my third child for the first 5 mths & didn't know I was pregnant. It also happened to my cousin with 3 of her children. I had a regular flow period so I was shocked to find out about my pregnancy.

M.,
I had monthly cycles the whole 9 months I was pregnant with my son and I don't know why. I asked my doctor and he too had no answers. He sent me for all these high tech ultra sounds who showed that the baby was doing wonderfully. With this pregnancy I ate everything in sight and had no morning sickness what so ever. My next pregnancy I had spotting for 6 months and he too was fine. Wish I could be of some help, sorry.

Hugs,
T.

yup, it is.

i know two women, katie didnt find out until she was 7 months along, and my sister kelly was 5 months pregnant when she found out-they told her she had thyroid cancer and that was why she was having funny weight gain.

there was one other woman i knew of she was seasonale so it was normal to get "break thru bleeding" she also found out at 7 months.

so i dont think it is as rare as they claim it to be on the didnt know i was pregnant shows. and yes i was confused also by the how do you not know part.

I actually personally know a couple of ladies it's happened to..one of them had difficulty believing she was pregnant for months as a result, & only went to see her OBGyn when lots of people began to comment on the fact that she LOOKED pregnant (her face, tummy!..) they had healthy babies too. As with all things, best check with your doctor to be sure..

Dear M.,

I can tell you that when I became pregnant with my daughter 16 years ago I was 4 months pregnant before I found out I still kept getting my period! Thank God I had a normal pregnancy other then that and no complications at delivery and she is healthy.
When asking my mom I found out that my grandmothers sister had her period during her pregnancy also so not sure if it could be heridetary.

Good Luck

Hi M.,

Yes, this is possible. Some of those stories are true, your body has a strange way of handleling things. I have gotten my period for the first 6 months of my pregnancy. I was getting an internal ultrasound almost everytime thinking I was losing the baby. I could not believe I was pregnant having to use maxi pads, this should of been my break but no. My son is fine. :) My twin sister told me she had it almost her whole pregnancy with her son. Almost on que. I know this won't sound good, because when it was said to me I would get angry. But, I am going to say it anyway from experience. What ever is going to happen will happen. You have to stay clam and hope for the best, and I did. I do wish you the best. Good Luck! :)

It's not common, but yes, it does happen. Very occasionally, a woman will continue having periods through her entire pregnancy. Happened to someone I know, she didn't realize that she was pregnant til the 7th month - after all, if you're using birth control and getting periods, do you really think you're pregnant? It wasn't til her weight gain jumped 5 pounds in a month and people started asking if she was pregnant that she really realized (she had only gained 10 pounds those first six months).
