My son just turned 1 and I am not sure what kind of foods I can feed him besides baby food. He only has his front top 4 teeth and his bottom front 2. What sorts of foods are good to feed him?

Please check out the book
Guide to Your Child's Nutrition at http://www.aap.org/bst/showprod.cfm?&DID=15&CATID...

It is awesome. It gives serving suggestions and portion sizes for every age group. It address vitamins, nutritional needs, normal growth patterns.... I LOVE this book!

Personally, by 9-12 months old my kiddos ate pretty much whatever the rest of the family ate. I made a few modifications, like I peeled and diced apples when the bigger kids got apple slices. For the oldest I bought more applesauce- breakfast was instant oatmeal or grits or scrambled egg, yogurt or fruit (most of the fruit was cut for self feeding)and maybe a biscuit or small bagel. Lunch Grilled cheese, cut up deli turkey, PBJ, cheese cubes, fruit.... dinner was always whatever hubby and I were having.
Have fun, relax and remember not to start battles or become a short order cook!

Like the others have said just mash or cut everything up that you eat into small pieces. Avocados are great food for toddlers and good for them as well.

hi my daughter is 11 months and also has the same amount of teeth. i feed her everything i eat. if your in a hurry those gerber toddler meals are great. they have the raviolies and they have the meat sticks. of course i always cut them up into smaller peices. my kiddo loves veggies and cottage cheese and cheerios and cheeto's ( i know not very healthy but her grandma has got her hooked!). they can pretty much eat anything we do except for fish, peanut butter, and anything they can choke on. hope this helps!

you can also steam carrots and cut them up into small pieces, bananas, avocado cut up is very good for babies. Costco also sells a chicken/mango sausage and a chicken/sundried tomatoe that is nitrate free and all natural. I boil it and cut it up and my girls love it. They are a 1 as well. Good luck.

Hi L.,

As a mother of a one-year old who had only 2 teeth on top and 2 on bottom at his first birthday, I am sure your main concern, as was mine, was the provision of healthy solid foods that your son can chew fully. I found that my son loved yogurt, dried cereals such as Cheerios (they make yogurt-coverd, fruit-flavored, and oats and honey if he does not like the plain ones, graham crackers and other whole grain crackers, oatmeal, bannana and other soft fruits cut into bite-sized pieces, applesauce, Gerber also makes these great bite sized fruit and veggie puffs that my son loves. You may also try mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, and green beans cut into bite-sized pieces.

Best wishes with your sons transition into toddler feeding. I hope this helps.

You can feed him all normal foods. It helps to break it up if the pieces are big. You just need to continue to watch him so that he does not choke. Doctor's say not to give your children nuts, chocolate, candy (especially hard candies or chewy ones), honey. Meat's are always the most difficult foods to give a child. I have a 9 month old son and a 2 year old daughter. At my son's 9 month checkup, the doctor said he could begin to eat normal foods. Hot dogs, vegetables, fruits. He just got his first tooth. Anything they can gum or chew easily is okay. Chicken, steak, etc. are difficult, but if you give small pieces, he can try to get used to the textures.

I would purchase Super Baby Food. It has different foods to introduce at each stage and lots of recipes.

My 13mo old twin girls like to eat vienna sausages, sliced cheese, cut up small pieces of peanut butter sandwiches, they really like refried beans...however it makes changing diapers not so much fun. :) They eat scrambled eggs for breakfast, one of them will eat small pieces of toast. They like meatballs, cut up of course. They snack on club crackers.
Hope this helps.
