Here's the link to monthly income eligibility standards for food stamps:

Cash aid is harder to get, and requires one parent to be working or seeking employment, and possibly both parents working or seeking employment if the youngest child is 23 months or older.

You'd have to check out the eligibility requirements for your state & then submit an application.

You can probably get foodstamps and medically needy insurance (which is like not getting anything anyways) but cash assistance is extremely hard to qualify for and not really helpful anyways. Stick to a foodstamp application. The worst they can say is no.

Well it depends on your income level. I would say if you qualify that way then you will most likely get a food card(they are not stamps anymore..loooks like a debit card) but cash can be tricky if there is income and you have to work for it anyway(they place you somewhere to "volunteer") so you could make more money working most times. Also you can get help with childcare if your kids are young and you can't afford daycare to go to work. When my oldest was a baby I was single and I payed 60 buck a month for full time daycare at a nice daycare facility. That should go by income too . My husband and I werer on "welfare" for a couple years and we got food and medical but no money. We made about 24000 a year combined with 2 kids. We actually got kicked off after 2 years so my children had no medical for about months until my husband started the job he has now and then worked enough union hours to get insurance. Thank God no one got sick. Call your local dept of job and family services and set up an appointment or go fill out an application, not sure how it works in your state.

It all depends on what the household income is. All states are different with qualifying for it.

You probably would unless you have a high paying job. You'd have to check annual income for 5 people. Cash Aid is hard to get and you have to pay it back from what I understand. My friend's friend is paying cash aid back now that she's getting child support.

I don't know about CA but here in Iowa, we can go to our state website and there is a link in there for asst. you click on it and it has the guidelines and a form you can fill out online and it will tell you if you qualify or not. If you do it is sent to a case worker in your county and they contact you and help you get started the rest of they way if you do. Good luck!

Cash aid is nearly impossible to get. Food stamps are easier and if your income is lower you would probably qualify. I doesn't hurt to try. If you or your husband are self employed be prepared to shell out a lot of documentation. Good Luck!

Yes, a two adult household can get both cash aid and food stamps, and mediCal. There are factors that determine how much or how little; what is the present household income vs. the federal poverty income guidelines. If you're under than you qualify, if you're near the border than you get the difference, if you're over than you don't qualify. I believe you'll be applying for CalWorks and you can apply as an urgent need, if you apply as an emergency (like there's no income at all) than you get a quicker resolution and if you qualify than you get your food stamps really fast (same day or in 3 days) You can check the DPSS website for further details. Also, income is really broad for example if some one gives you monthly assistance (not employment income) it counts towards the household income.

Yes, I believe you can. I don't know what the guidelines are, but I think it's based on income. I know families who do get food stamps, & both parents are in the home.

Yes. GO to your local social services office and apply. They will ask a lot of questions on the application but if you can get assistance then it will be worth it.

If your kids are under age 5 they may be able to get WIC too at the county health department. We get milk, chocolate milk, real cheese, bread, 100% juice, eggs, peanut butter, beans, fresh fruits and vegetables, all sorts of stuff. It really helps.

Call your local school offices and ask about the free lunch programs for school age kids. In Oklahoma they serve breakfast and lunch at a few of the local public schools and the kids eat free. The adults have to pay for theirs if they want to eat though.

Some churches in the community may also offer free evening meals. We go to one locally often. Our income is from disability so it is unearned income. We make just a bit too much to get assistance of food stamps but the kids get medical cards. We can only make ends meet sometimes by eating our meals like this. The food is good, no dishes, and no clean up at all.
