If "comfort" is "soul" food, there is an incredible cook book made by the American Heart Association called Soul Food cookbook (link below) ony $8 and it is incredible and must meet dietary guidlines for fat, sugar and cholesterol. I had a group cater an event using this cookbook's recipes - incredible!

If you want like a "comfort food dinner" there are lots of low fat recipes that basically swap a fatty ingredient for a better choice. Just check out food network "Ellie Krieger" or All Recipes.com or you can just be good about portion control-have a small slice of lasagna but have a large salad with it-so you dont deprive yourself and include a healthy option. For snacks at night the sugar free jello is a good option and maybe include a small dallop of lite whipped cream. There are lots more options then there used to be, you just got to be creative!

It's really not wise to rely on food for comfort - that's how people often gain excessive weight in the 1st place - you may need emotional support, spiritual practices, etc., to assist you. As for foods, there are healthy fats and unhealthy fats - we need essential faty acids such as those in fish oil, raw flax seed oil, hemp seed oil, olive oil, avocados, walnuts, etc. Even raw coconut oil is a healthy form of fat, though people with weak gall bladders can't handle much. So I'd suggest using those natural fats/oils in their raw unprocessed form since your body needs them - they don't cause the problems that cooked oils and refined fats create. Even raw butter can be useful in a healthy diet - using moderate amounts of healthy fats is necessary to keep your body healthy, going too far in cutting out all fats can be dangerous since we need the essential fatty acids.
