Your water is already flouridated, there is flouride in your toothpaste, and your child gets flouride treatments at the dentist.

Too much flouride is dangerous. No flouride drops are necessary.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount the so-called 'conspiracy theories' on fluoride, to tell you the truth. If you'd like to read up on fluoride, Dr. Mercola has quite a bit to say on the subject matter:

In response to your question, I personally would not give my child fluoride drops. And to be perfectly honest with you, I don't trust the government or FDA all that much when it comes to my family's health.

If fluoride is so great then why did the government issue this press release: http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2011pres/01/20110107a.html (which recommends that municipalities stay on the lower end of the fluoridation range)?

???

Yes, our own government acknowledges that there can be adverse effects from excess fluoridation. So it's hardly a fiction generated by the "conspiracy community."

I don't allow my children to get fluoride treatments at the dentist. Instead I take them every three months for cleanings.

Needed if the water your kids drink isn't flouridated.

We who grew up in rural areas with our own wells and town water (at school) not flouridated have a mouth full of fillings.

Now flouride is in toothpaste and rinses you can buy, also.

The only proven danger of too much flouride is discolored teeth. The rest of the hype comes from the "conspiracy community" as Beth so aptly put it.

Have you read the warnings on your toothpaste tube about flouride? It can be toxic. Also, it is linked to thyroid malfunction.
http://rense.com/general93/fluo.htm has this quote among many others worthy of reading:
"German and Austrian scientists knew in the early 1930s that an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) could be successfully treated by bathing patients in water containing minute amounts of fluoride. They had discovered nearly a century ago that fluoride blocked thyroid function. For the US government, long partnered with the pharmaceutical industry, to then force this same treatment on a nation of people with healthy thyroids under the lie that fluoride "prevents cavities in children," is unconscionable." Also:
"Symptoms of thyroid damage and fluoride poisoning include weight gain, edema, kidney disease, kidney failure, hair loss, depression, aggression, aches, pains, skin problems, bone deformities (likely including "arthritis" and spontaneous fractures), sexual/erectile dysfunction, memory loss, weakness, fatigue, heart disease, irritability, cancer, digestive disorders including severe GERD as a result of swallowing fluoride, nausea, vomiting, visual problems, gum disease, "high cholesterol," connective tissue damage, brittle teeth, wrinkles, premature aging, dehydration, and long, long after the whole body has been damaged, "cosmetic fluorosis" might finally show up in a tooth or two. "Cosmetic fluorosis" is usually the only sign of fluoride poisoning mentioned by fluoride promoters, while downplaying the rest of the signs as though their livelihoods depended upon it."

We don't do flouride in toothpaste or at the dentist or in our water, thankfully. We have excellent mountain well-water, and aren't subject to it.

Kentucky has the highest level of flouridation of their water. They also ranked #1 in incidence of cancer in the US, and it ranks at the top for the worst dental health in the nation. It has the worst rates of cavities in children, as well as complete toothlessness in adults.

Anyway, no thanks for us.

why did he recommend you give your child fluoride drops?
is your water not fluoridated?
I know there is a freak out about fluoride in the conspircy community. I have several friends that think they put it in our water to control population or some such nonsense.
Fluoride can be toxic if taken in LARGE doses
here is some information from the AAP on fluoride

My husband's father was one of the leading researchers (government funded) on the effects of flouride on our bodies. When the results of his research showed the incredibly damaging effects it can have (in large and small doses when ingested particulalry through water), the government pulled his funding. I don't believe in a conspiracy theories myself but I do believe in the very negative long-term effects of flouride.

If we know that it can strengthen your teeth, what do you think it does to your connective tissue inside your body? Because of his father's findings and his own upbringing, my husband is completely against any flouride for our son, but I think that topical usage makes sense but only when I can be sure that he doesn't swallow the toothpaste any longer. I will likely switch to a flouridated brand (that doesn't include other harmful chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate as many brands do). But I would never, never consider flouride drops.

I do not recommend flouride it is not healthy for anyone. We have to much of it in our water supply also. Google it and see what it says.

Just because our doctor recommends something doesn't always mean it is good for us. They treat symptoms.

Have a good day.

Our water here is not fluoridated so we give fluoride. Both our pediatrician and dentists strongly recommend it, especially while they are young and he adult teeth are growing in. And most toddler toothpaste is not fluoridated.

We live in an area without fluoride in the water. Was really good about giving them to my son when he was little and he has perfect teeth. Was horrible (lazy) about giving them to my daughter, and she now has a mouth full of cavities. While anything is bad in excess, I grew up with fluoride in the water (as did many others of our generation) and turned out fine, and with great teeth. Haven't had any adverse effects from using the drops with my kids - only with not using them. Good luck!
