First Period After D/C

Ok guys.. sorry if this is TMI but I need to know! I had my D/C for a missed miscarriage on Dec 18th. I spotted until Dec 30th then stopped. I had my hcg levels tested twice and with the last one my doctor said I no longer had the HCG in my system. I ovulated around January 16th. I cramped with the ovulation(which was normal for me, I did before the d/c too) and so I tested and it was positive on the 16th(the first day I bothered to test) and negative the next two days. Today I started spotting extremely lightly. I'm excited because I'm thinking this is my first period.. only so far, it's been EXTREMELY light and has come and gone all day long. I know this is the first day but if it doesn't get any heavier, I'm worried that something may be wrong. Before the d/c, I was regular, and heavy, and bled for 7 days. I also cramped pretty heavy. But I have had less cramping this week then I have had since my d/c. I cramped all week I ovulated and a couple of days after. Then nothing. I've had some light back pain and extremely mild cramps and then the light spotting. What is everyone elses experience?

What can I do next?

Sorry about your miscarriage. I've been there and it sucks!

I had a D and C several years ago for chronic heavy periods. I had 2 periods a month with very heavy bleeding several times a year. When they do the procedure, they are scraping your uterus. Mine was done to clean everything out. Yours would have been done for the same thing. I think it will take time to go back to normal. If you are having other normal symptoms of periods, it probably is one.

When you have a D&C done, they are scrapping the lining of your uterus to "clean you out." When you have your period, your body is basically doing the same thing only the natural way. So the period after a D&C, there really isn't much for your uterus to shed which means you will not have as many symptoms as usual. It might take a couple of months for things to get back to normal as your body builds up the lining again.

my first period was very strange after both of my d/c and it was actually the same way after my miscarriage that I had naturally (no d/c, so for the TMI) and then after a month or 2 they were fine. I always waited 2 full periods before trying again (and just so you're not discouraged, we found out I have a progrestrone problem and hopefully artifical will fix it all next time around). Good luck and I'm sorry for what you went through.
