Feeding an 18 Month Old
I was just curious what foods and how much food other moms out there are feeding their toddlers. I feel like I'm becoming less creative and might need some inspiration. Any great ideas?

My twins like stir fry (chicken, tofu, whatever) with broccoli, baby corn, water chestnuts and other vegetables. Lentils and rice are good. They also like meatloaf. Teriyaki chicken is a favorite. I like to give them different cuisines, with a protein and vegetables. You never know what they will like-just keep different things in front of them.

I just feed my 17 month old whatever we're eating. Breakfast is usually toaster waffles, a scrambled egg with cheese, and/or fruit. Lunch is whatever he has at daycare. Dinner is whatever we're having or mac & cheese, leftovers from the previous night, chunks of cut up cooked veggies and raw tomato, toast with various spreads, burgers, pizza, just whatever. Usually I top it off with some yogurt or applesauce for dessert. All meals he drinks whole milk from a cup, too.
As for quantity, he'll usually eat 1 egg with cheese, OR 1 waffle for breakfast. Dinner is usually a small bowl of some main dish, 1-2 servings of veggie, and a bowl of yogurt or applesauce.

Me too, I feed my son, who's just 18 months, the same stuff over and over, lots of frozen foods that I've prepared and reheat, leftovers. He eats toaster waffles for breakfast, or cereal and milk, usually with some fruit; at lunch he'll eat 3-4 chicken sticks or fish or meatballs with maybe tater tots, buttered bread or mashed potatoes and sometimes frozen sweet corn, green beans, and then yogurt or applesauce as dessert. Dinner is variations on the same, but sometimes he eats the risotto we're eating or whatever. Usually, he eats his main meal and then comes to graze with us if he finds our food interesting. Until recently, he had kind of a sensitive stomach -- turns out I was feeding him too many olives, which he loves. I thought I wa the only one who was lacking creativity. To make things worse, he gets out the toddler cookbook I have on nights when I really think things are boring, and points to the illustrations of wonderful Mickey mouse grilled cheese sandwiches, that I never have time to make!!! :) Go figure!

My 13 mth old has been eating basically everything we eat (with the exception of really spicy or sweet foods) since she was 11 mths old. Do you give your baby your food or just baby food? That would seem to get old to me, but they might be fine with it. I'd just try to share your food.

I am in the same dilema. I feel that I am constantly giving my 18 month old grilled cheese and bananas! I would love to get some advice too!

Anything you eat an 18-month-old can eat (just watch for food allergies). At this point, you really don't need to be making a separate menu for your toddler, just give him/her a small serving what what you make for yourself.

My husband and I have ALWAYS been very concerned with what we put in our bodies (except when I'm pregnant...). So when we had kids it was no different. My children LOVE fruits and vegetables and pasta. They always have a vegetable with their dinner and fruits usually for dessert/snacks. Since they LOVE pasta so much, we find a way to incorporate pasta into our meals several times a week. Find that one food your child likes and get creative with adding too it!
