Hi Mama's-

Our family has $1,500 for a family vacation. Four of us, 1 & 3 yr old. We live in Wisconsin-we can do a waterpark anytime so that is out and Chicago is nearby so that's out too.

Any ideas that we could do in a 5-6 hour car ride that would be fun and different and keep us on budget.

What can I do next?

What about driving across the border ino MN and doing the indoor theme park at Mall of America? Or, you could even take it further north to Lake Superior. There are resorts all along the coastline that offer a lot of "buy two nights get one free" deals. If you do the MN route, there is an apartment bldg that rents out 2 bedroom apartments for a fraction of hotel rooms and they are fully furnished!! You rent them through www.bridgestreet.com. I use this company ALL the time for vacations! I stayed in Edina MN right next to Edinborough indoor play park for less than $80 a night. I had a private underground parking spot, access to the pool, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The closet in one bedroom was so huge I put a roll a way bed in it for my daughter!

How about going to St. Louis or Indy? There are tons of things to do in both cities.

I was going to suggest Minneapolis/St. Paul...so much to do. The Science Museum, the Children's Museum, the Walker Art Center (my favorite!), St. Paul's Basilica, the Mall of America, etc...and you could take a day trip down to Rochester and check out Mayo Clinic, which is worth it, in my opinion. If you REALLY wanted to, you could travel and hour and a half south of the twin cities and visit the Spam Museum, where I live. :) It's what is sounds like, but it's fun. Hee hee...have fun!
