Fall Day Trip Around Chicago

We live in the city and are looking for a fun day trip to get outside of the city. It is supposed to be cool and sunny so outside would be fine as well. We have done pumpkin patches, Morton Arboretum, and Botanic Garden recently. We are looking for something for kids between 1 and 5 that would be really fun....and within an hour out of the city. Thank you for any recommendations you have! :)

The Grove is awesome (and free - parking is free too). I just went with my 2 and 4 year-old last week. Trails are stroller-friendly. This place is huge...I can't believe I'd never heard of it before.

Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy!!

Check out Mount Baldi in Michigan City, IN. It is fun hiking and playing in the sand. My kids love it.

Check out New Buffalo or Warren Dunes in southwest MI. Both are only around 1-1.25 hours outside of Chicago. If any leaves have survived the wind these past two days, it should be pretty!
