Facial Hair

Hi Moms,
Does anyone know of an effective way to hide upper lip facial hair? I am not considering shaving it as I know it will grow even thicker. I heard about Vaniqa, has anybody tried it? Is it good? Bleaching isn't an option as I'm "mocha" and the blonde/gold/silver bleached hair on my skin will shout even louder unless there is a bronze bleaching product I don't know of.
Please advise.
Thanks.

So What Happened?

I've decided to take some time and maybe save for electrolysis/permanent hair removal. I thank you all for your inputs.

Definitely Wax! I love gigi strip free microwave formula. You just microwave for 1 minute, put on with a small wood applicator - you can buy them anywhere, then it hardens itself and it pulls right off with the hair. No messy strips - very easy to use. I have tried all sorts of wax and this is the best. You can buy it in a beauty supply store or on amazon. Here is a link.

I know the dilema all too well. I'm caramel toned and have the same trouble but what seems to work for me is mustache scissors. I can get a fairly close cut down to the skin line and it seems to be a long time between having to cut it down again. Give it a try before you trying anything else.

L.,
Waxing is one option. You might try Aveeno's shave minimizing lotion (hard to find; I order it via Amazon). You can use it ANYWHERE you want to minimize the appearance of hair, and it really works--it takes about a month or so, but the hair that grows back is softer and it grows back slower.
Best of luck.

Hey L.,

I would say you should try the Laser hair removal, I know several people who have tried it, and it went very well,
Initially it can leave little spots on your face but it fades and then vanishes, its really not that expensive.
Its not cheap either but its well worth the expense.

If you opt not to choose this, then try Threading, its like plucking so the result is the hair doesn't grow back as fast. Its quite simple and fast.

I am "mocha" as well, so yeah no... bleaching won't work lol. I have a bit of an upper lip hair issue and I get it waxed about once a month or so. Yeah it hurts, but it's worth it. If you can't deal w/the pain, before waxing I was using Nair facial hair remover. It worked well too. Shaving won't make it grow back thicker, but it will grow back w/stubble that makes it appear thicker, which is just as bad. I suggest Nair or waxing.

Waxing or a more permanent method is though lazer hair removal which can be costly. Hair does not grow back thicker that is just a myth. I have also used Nair if I don't have time to get it waxed.

Hi L.,
You received many great responses, so I won't give you more input, but I will answer your question about Vaniqa. I have tried the cream - actually on two different occasions years apart from each other. I did not see much success from either run with the product. My suggestion is to use another method, as described by the others here; especially if you are looking for early results.

Hi L. for personal experience you are better off doing laser. I'm a mother of twins and that's what I had to do. I tried wax, depilatory cream, shaving and electrolosis and nothing has work like laser i highly recommended. I used Natural Radiance in the lower east side of Manhattan on 79th street the owner of the business her name is Tori you will love the experience. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sally Hanson makes a creme hair remover which is awesome, been using it for years. Cheap, easy and available at your local drug store.

Sadly the best way is to just wax or pluck it out. I have dark hair and pluck mine, but I don't have ton of it.
Good luck!

It is a fairy tale that hair grows back in thicker. It looks thicker because it is shorter, and is darker because it has not been exposed to the sun, but hair grows in pretty much the same as it was before.
I remove mine with an OTC facial hair remover, my sister has her sugared. Mine takes just 5 min. every two weeks, my sister's is more expensive, but she only has to have it done every two months. Nothing we ever tried hid it.

One of your responses was about that smooth away thing on TV and drug stores - be careful with this if you have sensitive skin. It made my skin breakout when I tried it. I think best bet is - laser(if you can afford it); electrolosis (if you have time and money), waxing and threading.
Good luck - I have been dealing with this issue for years and changeup the way I deal with it periodically.

I'm not sure about Vaniqua, but I can tell you that waxing works great for me. It takes several weeks to grow back (at least for me), and it's always just as soft and just as fine as ever once it starts to. Good luck!

If you are brave you can try the Emjoi Tweeze--battery run tweezers. Check out the reviews on Amazon. (The noise is worse than the pain I think!) I recommend using a good product after the hair removal though like a Sally Hansen soothing creme.

The easiest thing to do is go to a beauty shop and have your lip waxed- $6. It should last for a month. Stray hairs, tweeze them out.

Hiya Mari here!!! I am an Licensed Clinical Aesthetician & I saw your post!!! I am new to this board so here it goes!!!! Great advice btw ladies!!!!

However I wanted to add just a little more.....

Laser - the best option if you are dark & course haired will not work effectively for light hair color. Shaving between sessions will be required to encourage the course hair growth for effective permenant laser hair reduction.

Waxing - works fabulously on everyone even people with sensitive skin however there are contraindications that can cause adverse reactions during waxing. retin-a, differin, tazorac, azalex, chemicals peels, internal medications can all cause the skin to burn & lift.

Tweezing - effective can be done at home without any adverse effect time consuming

Vaniqa can be used post wax or tweeze with great result to slow hair growth but not as a stand alone treatment

Shaving NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Unless receiving laser hair removal treatments!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps!!! if you or anyone else has any questions just feel free to ask!!!! Have a very blessed day!!!!!
Mari
