Facial Hair? - Avon,MA

My 19 month old has had a moustache since she was born. She has lots of dark curly hair on her head, so I suppose this shouldn't surprise me too much. I thought that it would rub off or go away over time, but it has not. While it is not an issue right now, I don't want her to be made fun off by other kids as she gets a older. There doesn't seem to be any non-invasive non-toxic hair removal method, so I probably just need to not worry about it, but I wondered if anybody else was aware of hair removal methods appropriate for children. Thanks

There's absolutely no way I would remove facial hair on a baby . Eek.

If, once she's older, she asks about it AND wants it removed...I'd take her to a beautician for safe recommendations on tender skin :)

My stepmother's niece had a lot of body hair and I believe they did laser surgery to remove it. I can talk to her if you'd like and find out specifics of age, procedure, etc. Just send me a message if you're interested.

I have very early memories of my mother bleaching my top lip with Jolene. It hurt so much that I used to scream and cry the whole time. Now as an adult I can't imagine a little dark fuzz on my lip was worth all that. And because of my mother's obsession with getting rid of it, as I grew older I became extremely self conscience about it. But when I look at old photos it's not even noticeable! By 12 I started shaving, which only made it worse. A few years ago I tried laser removal which was painful and didn't really do much. So really I have spent my whole life worrying about it and I think if my mom had just left me alone it wouldn't have turned into such a big deal.

I'd definitely recommend ignoring it completely.

Hi M.,
I come from India and we only use all natural products on babys skin.. I will suggest a natural remedy for it but its totally upto you.. My mother did when I was a baby and I am one of the lucky few who do not have much or any facial hair.
If u know of any indian shops in your town try these..... apply gramflour & turmeric mixed with curd or cream (paste).this worked miracle for me .try this. It a most natural thing you can think of and will not harm your baby. Apply it just before shower and rinse.
Let me know if I can answer any more questions if you are interested..

Eeek!!! Don't touch it! It very well could go away since baby velous hair is often different that child or adult hair. What ever you do, don't put chemicals on your child's lip. They are toxic enough for adults. We have fewer years left for those toxic effects to manifest but your baby has a whole lifetime ahead of her. And shaving it would be a dissaster she'd be dealing with the rest of her life.

If you are concerned because it is noticeable, ask you pediatrician if there are any underlying medical reasons. Otherwise, please don't start her life off in a self-conscious routine and existance. She's only 19 months! If you start now, she'll have no living memory of being care free and not self-conscious.
