My friend is moving to DFW from Tennessee. Her husband has been teacher of the year at every school he has worked for. He has a BA in Phys Ed and an MA in Heath Ed. He teaches PE at the Elementary level and is an outstanding, inspiring teacher. It is amazing the resume he has for a 35 year old man, but he is a wonderful (he taught my kids before we became friends).

So he loved the NY school system but when he moved to another state, PE was not valued and the school system was very political.

Can you tell me which school system he should apply with? Is there a protocol he should know about in advance for getting hired in the metroplex?

What can I do next?

The Richardson ISD is also terrific. I was actually suprised not to see it listed already. I teach Pre-K in the district and have had a really good experience! I also went to Richardson schools my whole life, and loved everywhere I attended. The website is www.risd.org. Good luck!

Hi R.,

I think Lewisville, Grapevine/Colleyville, Coppell, Plano, and Frisco are school districts with good reputations. Has he looked into job fairs? I think there are some pretty big ones with lots of school districts coming up in a few months or so. When I was in college and looking I went to a few job fairs and that's where you really get to meet the principals and being face to face with them really counts for a lot when you're applying. He could also take a look on the Region 10 website (http://www.region10.org/).

I wish them luck! C.

This is my 11th year of teaching in the Lewisville ISD. I have been very happy here. I am also a graduate of the Lewisville ISD. The school district spans from some of Frisco and Plano, The Colony, some of Carrollton, Lewisville, Flower Mound, and Highland Village. He would need to file an application with the Administration's Human Resources office. They must conduct an interview with him before he would be allowed to contact principals. There will be a super job fair the district hosts usually in April. He can visit the website: www.lisd.net to learn more about the district. I believe he could even apply online through the employment link. They also post openings there.

Let me know if you or he would like to know anything else.

I would say to have him look into Grapevine Colleyville ISD. I lived there and taught at two different schools in the district. It is wonderful. Everyone speaks very highly of the district and many people move their families there so that their childern can attend.

Tell him to check out Southlake too. I think it is listed as one of the top in the state.
