Expectant Mom Researching Reliable Pediatrician in Orland Park Area

I am a first time mom still new to the area trying to figure out the best way to find a pediatrician for my baby. I moved here about 1 1/2 yrs ago when we first got married and had to choose my own doctors on my own judgement. My husband is originally from the Chicagoland area, but hasn't been living here for the last couple years because he was finishing up grad school out-of-state and doesn't have any friends with small children that I could ask for advice on choosing a suitable physician. If there is anyone that knows and trusts their physician enough to suggest them, that would be greatly appreciated. I do also have to take my insurance limitations into consideration.

What can I do next?

I love Dr. Ken Porter in Lemont. He's very straight forward. I'd just make some appts. with some of the people who you get names of and go interview them now. You'll know more if they are right for you after you meet them in person.

We go to Hedges Clinic in Frankfort. Dr. Jain has been taking care of our kids for 18 years now. He has been wonderful when my kids were hospitalized (at different times)he kept a really close watch on them. He spends a lot of time with each patient when you have an appointment. We love him and he goes to Silver Cross hospital which is a wonderful hospital also. I'm sure he goes to some other hospitals but we always choose Silver cross. Hedges also has a new woman pediatrician and her name is Dr. Donausky. We have seen her a few times because our doctor is in such demand and we really love her too. She is young, very sweet and checks for everything. Finding a good doctor is so scary when you're a new mom. Good luck. The number for Hedges Clinic is ###-###-####.

Dr. Brian DuMais (du-may) has been very good to us. He is in Orland in the office buildings by the firestation on 151st and Ravinia. He is quick to respond to paging and they will see you if you are just worried about something to rule it out. He will meet with you before you have your baby to answer any questions you may have about his practice. He delivers at Christ and Palos hospitals.
Good luck!

I take my son to Dr. Pandya in Tinley Park. His office is on Harlem Ave just north of 171st Street on the east side of the street. He takes all, and I mean ALL insurances and Medical cards. I was referred to him through my cousin who is a labor and delivery nurse. She takes her daughter there. He is great with children and answers all of your questions that you may have!
His number is ###-###-####

I've only been here since August, we moved from Champaign, but as I looked into hospitals to deliver at I found that Silver Cross was much more highly recommended for delivery than St. James and we have an HMO, so I ended up changing my PCP from what the rest of my family has so I could deliver at Silver Cross. So I guess what I'm saying is that if you have an HMO, look at what hospital they use as well as how the DR is. We see a family practitioner named Dr. Danaher with WellGroup and she's been really great.

I was at Christ hospital for 45 days before I gave birth, due to complications and I asked the all the "baby nurses" who they recommended. They all said the same thing. His name is Dr Brian Dumais. He is fabulous. He has children of his own and he takes his time with you and answers any questions you might have. The nurses are great also! He is located off 150th and LaGrange Rd.
Good luck!

Well even though I am sure you have had some great recommendations. I have tried a few doctors in this area, but I think I have an amazing pediatrician. Her name is Dr. Wafaa Hanna. She has an aswering service where she has taken my calls at all hours of the night. She also pays so much individual attention to all my sons, but she really has helped me with my baby. He was born two months early and I took him to a different doctor and she did not notice some things in him that needed some attention. That doctor was a teacher doctor...and is mentioned on your responses. One day I had called for a appointment and this doctor was not in.......so I called Dr. Hanna and I truly regreted not taking him to her in the first place. She seems to treat him as though he was her own. When he was very sick........she will even kiss him on the forehead with no fear of getting sick herself. She has even called other specialist's herself. She will fight for your child to get the best care possible. I could go on & on but I hope you will try her out. She is with Advocate Christ's Hope Hospital. Her office is: 18210 S. La Grange Road suite 109., Tinley Park IL ###-###-#### is the phone #.
Right of interstate 80w & Lagrange.

I have to speak on this one. My daughters are currently seeing Dr. Ananya Spann in the Orland Park area right off of 167th Street. I used to work as a medical file clerk in Frankfort with Dr. Spann and after I had my youngest, I decided to make her my pediatrician. My oldest is turning 18 in June and is having a hard time dealing with leaving Dr. Spann. She's thorough and very attentive. Here's her info. Good luck. I know you will love her.

I love, love, love our docs. They are the Loyola Physicians Network, and they all teach at Loyola. As far as I know, they ONLY take infants now as new patients. That's how we got in 7 years ago. They're at 108th Ave. and 167th St.

We were originally recommended Dr. Rojas as a friend of a friend of a friend thing. He's so great about explaining things, getting questions asked, connecting with kids. He's not quick to give medicine, but he's also reasonable that if it's Friday afternoon and things could get bad, he'll give you a scrip and let you use your judgment. My only complaint was that I was an exclusive breastfeeder, and he just sort of let me do my thing. One of his partners, however, Dr. Diamond who we saw a few times when ours was on vaca, once when my dd was born, is stunningly knowledgeable about breastfeeding issues for a doc. But I guess having six kids his wife bfed will do that!

There are two other docs in the practice. One whose name I forgot we've only seen once, and the other who is a woman we've never seen, as she's only been there about 18 months. The whole office is very personable, and I'd recommend them highly.

Hi S.,

I too am an RN and have researched peds in the area - I have found a wonderful group (The Childrens Wellness Center ###-###-####)through my OB/GYN and Perinatologist. There are three female Peds privilged primarily at Christ and Palos. They are wonderful and quite educational/respectful for the know-it-all mom (that would be me). My OB/GYN takes his children to this group and had spoken highly of their talents. In addition, I suggest that you start your relationship with the senior physician (Dr. L. Maaish).

ALSO... the group had been reconized nationally in 2002-2003 for there efforts.

Good Luck -

I do not take my kids to any of these doctors personally (we all see a family practitioner) but I work on an OB unit and have had positive experiences with Drs. Kim and Calvert, Dr Narcelles, and Dr Diamond, they all have offices in Orland or Palos Heights. I know many of my friends at work take their kids to these doctors. Good Luck in your search.

Dr Akrami in Tinley, is great! He is a pediatrician and a family doctor, my husband has been going there since he was a baby, and he is still his doc now! My 6 month old also goes there, and he and his staff are just wonderful! He can be kinda scary at times cause he will give you the worst case scenario all the way to oh its just gas! But the thing is, is that he will take every precaution! My daughter got really sick when she was three months old, and the doc actually came to the emergency room at 1130 at night, so i didnt have to deal with the er docs
the number is ###-###-#### and the address is 16650 s harlem ave tinley park and he also has a office in homewood

the only draw back is the hospital he works for is ingalls in harvey, but he may go to others i am not 100%sure though

I take my Baby to Orland Primary Care too. The doctors are great and they have a lab right in the office. I think there is a doctor there every day too. We met with our pediatrician while I was still pregnant and LOVED her. She set time out for us and answered all of our questions. Good luck.
