Expectant Mom Researching Reliable Pediatrician in Orland Park Area

I am a first time mom still new to the area trying to figure out the best way to find a pediatrician for my baby. I moved here about 1 1/2 yrs ago when we first got married and had to choose my own doctors on my own judgement. My husband is originally from the Chicagoland area, but hasn't been living here for the last couple years because he was finishing up grad school out-of-state and doesn't have any friends with small children that I could ask for advice on choosing a suitable physician. If there is anyone that knows and trusts their physician enough to suggest them, that would be greatly appreciated. I do also have to take my insurance limitations into consideration.

What can I do next?

My two boys are also patients of Dr. Spann. She is great and the other Dr's in the practice are wonderful as well.

I love Dr. Ken Porter in Lemont. He's very straight forward. I'd just make some appts. with some of the people who you get names of and go interview them now. You'll know more if they are right for you after you meet them in person.

I take my Baby to Orland Primary Care too. The doctors are great and they have a lab right in the office. I think there is a doctor there every day too. We met with our pediatrician while I was still pregnant and LOVED her. She set time out for us and answered all of our questions. Good luck.

Dr Akrami in Tinley, is great! He is a pediatrician and a family doctor, my husband has been going there since he was a baby, and he is still his doc now! My 6 month old also goes there, and he and his staff are just wonderful! He can be kinda scary at times cause he will give you the worst case scenario all the way to oh its just gas! But the thing is, is that he will take every precaution! My daughter got really sick when she was three months old, and the doc actually came to the emergency room at 1130 at night, so i didnt have to deal with the er docs
the number is ###-###-#### and the address is 16650 s harlem ave tinley park and he also has a office in homewood

the only draw back is the hospital he works for is ingalls in harvey, but he may go to others i am not 100%sure though

I do not take my kids to any of these doctors personally (we all see a family practitioner) but I work on an OB unit and have had positive experiences with Drs. Kim and Calvert, Dr Narcelles, and Dr Diamond, they all have offices in Orland or Palos Heights. I know many of my friends at work take their kids to these doctors. Good Luck in your search.

I'll 2nd Orland Primary Care and Dr. Spann. She's really great. I referred my sister and my friend to her with their kids and they love her, too.

Good luck!

Hi S.,

I too am an RN and have researched peds in the area - I have found a wonderful group (The Childrens Wellness Center ###-###-####)through my OB/GYN and Perinatologist. There are three female Peds privilged primarily at Christ and Palos. They are wonderful and quite educational/respectful for the know-it-all mom (that would be me). My OB/GYN takes his children to this group and had spoken highly of their talents. In addition, I suggest that you start your relationship with the senior physician (Dr. L. Maaish).

ALSO... the group had been reconized nationally in 2002-2003 for there efforts.

Good Luck -

Dr.Kevin Germino is great. he is in orland park ###-###-####. good luck!

I love, love, love our docs. They are the Loyola Physicians Network, and they all teach at Loyola. As far as I know, they ONLY take infants now as new patients. That's how we got in 7 years ago. They're at 108th Ave. and 167th St.

We were originally recommended Dr. Rojas as a friend of a friend of a friend thing. He's so great about explaining things, getting questions asked, connecting with kids. He's not quick to give medicine, but he's also reasonable that if it's Friday afternoon and things could get bad, he'll give you a scrip and let you use your judgment. My only complaint was that I was an exclusive breastfeeder, and he just sort of let me do my thing. One of his partners, however, Dr. Diamond who we saw a few times when ours was on vaca, once when my dd was born, is stunningly knowledgeable about breastfeeding issues for a doc. But I guess having six kids his wife bfed will do that!

There are two other docs in the practice. One whose name I forgot we've only seen once, and the other who is a woman we've never seen, as she's only been there about 18 months. The whole office is very personable, and I'd recommend them highly.

I have to speak on this one. My daughters are currently seeing Dr. Ananya Spann in the Orland Park area right off of 167th Street. I used to work as a medical file clerk in Frankfort with Dr. Spann and after I had my youngest, I decided to make her my pediatrician. My oldest is turning 18 in June and is having a hard time dealing with leaving Dr. Spann. She's thorough and very attentive. Here's her info. Good luck. I know you will love her.
