Seeking Good Pediatrician in the South Suburbs of Chicago near Richton Park IL

Hi Mom's
I am having problems finding a good pediatrician in the South Suburbs of Chicago. Maybe it is because I have HMO Blue but I feel that I should still be able to find someone that is experienced, caring and has good bedside manners. The first doctor I had always prescribed strong medication even Codine III for my child whom at the time was under 6 months. I have so many botteles of medicine in my cabinet that I could probably start a pharmacy. The next docotor misdiagnosed my daughter who had a low vitamin D deficiancy who ended up in the Intesive Care Unit for 5 days with seizures and shortness of breath. The doctor that I recently switched to is unreliable. I have been calling her office for the second day straight and the phone just rings with no answering service option as well as no pager for the doctor. Needless to say that I am very frustrated and am highly considering switching to PPO just so I can have a say so of where I can go. Please help me find a doctor that is reliable, caring and has good bedside manners. If you would highly recommend them and they don't take HMO please still give me the name as my enrollment period is starting over in June and I will switch to PPO. Thank you all for your help.

From a very frustrated Mom.

What can I do next?

I absolutely love Dr. Donausky in Frankfort, IL. It is not a far drive for you, maybe 15 minutes. Her manner is very loving and she really sits and listens to concerns. ###-###-####. She is in Hedges Clinic on Colorado St., which is right across the street from Lincolnway East High School on LaGrange Ave. Please consider her. I let all moms know about the care that is given!

Have you tried WellGroup in the Heights? If not I recommend it especially with the HMO, there are so many doctors in that practice and I really like Dr. Kamat. He is an older man, but he is cute with my children and he has a GREAT nurse. When my kids are sick, I can usually get them in same day if not the next day for sure!

Hi A.,

Please try Dr. Lawrence Dorsey in Flossmoor. He is part of the University of Chicago Physician's Group. The office is part of the Ingalls Medical Center on Governor's Highway right off of Vollmer Road. The number is ###-###-####. I don't know what kinds of insurance they take, but they are pretty flexible. I love that Dr. Dorsey knows my daughter just by looking at her. She's been going there since she was about 6 months old. He doesn't medicate unless necessary and he has some great at home remedies too. When my daughter was on the verge of pneumonia, he gave minimal medication and told me some things to do with her at home. They worked like a charm! He teaches at the the U of C on Tuesdays and Thursdays and he is in the office on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. He has a great bedside manner and is very intuitive when it comes to kids. My "other mother" recommended him. She is 63 and knows a good doctor when she sees one and he is great. Good luck with your search!

I have to agree WellGroup has awesome Doctors my girls go Dr Neela Patel WellGroup in Matteson, the staff & Doctors are family friendly. Dr Wallace (General) saved my husband by detecting cancer early, even when his PSA came back normal, Dr Patel (peds)is GREAT with my girls and if she needs answers she will find them and not guess. Most lab testing will come from Chicago Heights, where I have been an outpatient; again the staff is super family friendly. Also Dr Wes is a nice OBGYN. I am glad we have been with WellGroup since 2001!! My son who just has changed jobs even kept going to them paying cash if need be just to stay with the Doctors of WellGroup until his new insurance kicked in :)

Sending blessings your way!

I agree that all of the doctors and the University of Chicago physicians group are great. You can always get in to see some one. We have our favorites but have seen them all. ###-###-#### (at governors highway and kedzie)

Dr. Macyko and Dr. Irons in Olympia Fields. ###-###-####. We live in Richton Park also and they are very convenient. They are right at Vollmer and Pulaski.

Connor has been seeing Dr. Macyko since he was born and Dr. Irons has also seen him a couple of times. They are both experienced female doctors. We love Dr. Macyko who is Connor's primary doctor. As for the HMO, I think Dr. Irons accepts HMO at Olympia Fields and Dr. Macyko accepts HMO at the Orland Office which isn't too terribly far. Not exactly sure since Connor has switched insurance plans a lot. I know sometimes if you start them as a patient at one location, then you can switch. Good luck!

Hello A.,
I LOVE my pediatrician, my daughter was born extremely premature and I looked for months for a good ped. that I felt comfortable with and I thought was a good fit for my daughter. His name is Dr. Subash Arora. He is located in Orland Park and in Evergreen Park. He does not belong to a group. He has his own practice. It is called Pediatric Associates. I love the fact that he treats his patients like they all his children. If you have a question no matter how big or small he does not get upset if you page him. He is also a working Neonatologist as well (which is why I was interested in his practice) he keeps up on everything. He is a great doctor in my eyes. When you make an appt. you know that is going to be with him, not someone else in the group. Check him out.He does not mind if you want to sit down with him first to see if you like him too. I did that. Good luck.
