My husband gave me a Nook Color for my birthday last week. I really don't want to purchase ebooks at this time. Do any of you know where I can download free ebooks that are good ones? I love John Grisham, James Patterson, Twilight Series etc.

Thanks in Advance!

What can I do next?

You can sign up for Borders.com rewards program (the free one) and they will send you emails about free ebooks. You can alos look at their list and find some. Also, I have gotten emails from them about books for $1-$3.

There's Torrent, as well; though I think you'd need to be cautious of viruses. I'm not sure of other sites, though... a quick google search may turn up a few promising sites.

If you had the Kindle, I'd have said Amazon has a whole bunch of free books as well. >.<

I wish the ebooks worked the same across all devices!!! It's annoying having to go to ONE store b/c that's the one that works with the ebook reader that one has!

Congrats!

I wanted a Nook Color for Christmas but couldn't bring myself to ask for it...it's just too much $ for us right now...especially seeing how hubby already has a Kindle!

You can get books from the library some how...just not sure how exactly.

I bet you could ask someone at Barnes and Noble and they can tell you all your options!

I know with my Sony eReader, I can check books out of my local library. I download them to my computer and transfer them to my eReader, so I would think that you can do it with any eReader.

look here to find freebies and well rated books under 5... no smut or cheesy romance. Often good books are free and unadvertised... so use this site to help you find books for your nook at a good price.

I would look for free books available on the BN.com website. There should be lots of classics that are part of the public domain and that's why they're offered for free. Also, some authors put their own work up for free or very cheap there in hopes of getting you hooked on a series.

But beware of sites like 4share where you can download books that other people have uploaded. That is a violation of the copyrighted material. Those sites don't have legal permission to have the books available. The author and the publisher don't get paid any money for that. Maybe that doesn't seem like a very big deal to some people, but it actually is. The publishing industry is trouble because more and more people are downloading books illegally.

I encourage you to find ways to get books that are free or cheap that are legal, like the library. Also, if you check out various authors websites, they sometimes offer free stories. You might have to try new authors who are still trying to build their readership, but I promise you'll find some gems!

Enjoy your nook ... there are many great book options out there!

I'm hoping to receive the Nook for Christmas! I don't have an answer for you, but I heard you can download from the library (something you cannot do with the kindle, which is why I wanted the Nook) and and share books with friends by "lending". I'm hoping to learn the answer to this, too!

There are many libraries that have Digital Overdrive Media. You can check the books out online from home and download directly to your reader. It is a free service of the libraries that offer it. The Nook online console should have a link to take you to a list of libraries that participate. I have been using the libarary for over a year now and it works great. You can also get audiobooks.

Sorry about that. The authors/series you mentioned are all copyrighted. The authors you mentioned want $. There is no legal way you can get them free. For books published before 1937, you can go on the app "free books" (on iPad) and download your copy. Sometimes there are very low priced books say for $3, but they are low quality romances. I don't know about getting anything free at the library but doubt very much they are the books you are asking for. I know because I like those 2 authors. Your best bet is a used book store. I have an iPad and have checked everything out. No free rides. Most are $9.99 or up on Amazon depending on author or demand. If you find out differently, let all of us know. Good luck.
