Early Pregnancy Cleaning Woes

Hello ladies...I just found out that I am pregnant with my second baby (I am about 5 weeks) and studpily cleaned my bathtub with bleach today. My daughter just got these new bath crayons that do not just "wipe clean with water" like is says so on the box! Anyway, I opened the window of my bathroom while cleaning, but as I was scrubbing the tub I opened my mouth to take a breath (which I never do) and accidentally inhales some fumes. I feel totally fine, but when it happened, my throat burned a little bit. I am sure my little baby is perfectly fine, but I just got scared. Has this ever happened to anyone? My husband thinks I'm nuts and is looking over my shoulder laughing at me as I type. Men!! They just don't get it :) Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!! And thanks :)

What can I do next?

I think the worrying you are doing is probably more harmful than a few errant fumes. In hindsight, there is nothing you can do about it anyway. Relax & stop stressing!

Your baby will be fine. It won't go through the placenta. Hope your lungs are okay (it sounds like they are.)

Congratulations on the pregnancy!!

Oh please don't worry yourself sick over this. All will be fine, try to avoid it in the future though! This bathroom cleaner is what I ended up using while pregnant and whenever I had a little baby in the house. I still buy it when I can because it works great! It smells a little different but its not vinegar (yuck!) and its plant based instead of man made chemical based. Stop worrying about the bleach, the baby is going to be fine!

Relax :-) you and baby will be fine. If a lungful of bleach fumes caused that kind of harm the human race wouldn't have survived as long as it has. Seriously, your body is designed to protect that kiddo and actually does a hell of a job. Just trust it.

But make your husband clean the tub from now on, just to be safe ;)

Bleach is fine to use while pregnant. Just ventilate well, like you'd do all the time.

Well, breathing the fumes in through your mouth (although nasty tasting) isn't any less healthy than breathing through your nose.

I'm sure you and your little one are fine.

This might be a great excuse to buy a steam cleaner and give up the harsh chemicals all together :)

Congratulations first!!! Then relax! I was 3 MONTHS pregnant with my second child before I knew she was coming. During that time I obviously had NO prenatal care and did the same things like always which included bleaching the bathroom! (No window + bad circulation of air = mold!!!) She is now a happy 6 year old! You might want to be more careful from here on out but it won't hurt the baby but your lungs could be hurt regardless of being pregnant or not if your not careful with cleaning agent s and such!

I wouldn't worry about it. Just get some fresh air and don't do that again. And if your are really worried, go the your doctor and ask her.
From now on, keep away from all cleaning solutions like that.

Me personally, I cleaned with everything, I scooped litter boxes, ran the vacuum, lifted 50 lb. bags of corn for my ducks, all that stuff (not that you should, but I liked doing things myself). My kids came out fine. with my first pregnancy, I was taking some kind of medication before I actually found out as well as ibuprofen, and my dr. said that I was so early on, no harm was done. I am sure you are ok. I think once we find out we have that little life forming inside of us, we go into protection overload. I know for me, I was concerned about second hand smoke from jerks who insisted on smoking in front of the doors to the mall and grocery store (instead of moving 10 feet over to the actual 'smoking area'). you are not alone :)
