A friend of mine recently started using the e-mealz program and suggested we try it. I looked over the website and it sounds GREAT. I just have a couple of questions and I'm hoping there are some moms...or dads out there that use it or have in the past. I would like to know how many fresh veggies are incorporated? Does it use a lot of pre-ackaged things? We like to use fresh ingredients whenever possible and was just wondering if the plan utilizes these or not....I know I could always just substitute...just wondering. Also it says for a family of 4-6. We have 6 so I was curious if the meals seem to work for 6 or would I need to add a little more to the list? Thanks In advance :)

What can I do next?

I don't think the meals would actually feed 6 unless you are all small eaters. The recipes often have canned or frozen veggies but you can easily substitute. I liked the meals at first but then we started only liking one or two of the recipes each week. I hated how if I say had to buy a carton of ricotta I would only use part of it and then there would be no use for the rest of the carton, even in the next weeks recipes. I felt like I was wasting food and money of some things.

Is this the thing advertised by Dave Ramsey? I am curious about it but haven't researched. I"ll be looking to see what other people have to say.

I used E-mealz for a little while and really liked it. I used the Weight Watchers version and it was great for counting points. I have a friend who used it for her family of 5 (3 boys) and the servings for 6 seemed to work.

The meals always include fruit and/or veggies, but not always in the main course. It usually puts a side with the meal. It does use a little more canned food than I would have liked, but one of the points is to make it "easy", so I guess I can understand. I would substitute fresh veggies when you can.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I printed out all of the meals each week and cancelled after about a year. I had enough of things we liked to rotate them. Good luck!

A great alternative to that would be to try Homemade Gourmet. As a consultant for them, I use the meal planning that comes in the mail each month. I love it because it has the meals planned out, includes the seasonings that you need as well as a grocery list. The big advantage is all fresh ingredients are used with no preservatives added to the seasonings, and you add in your own fresh fruit, veggies and/or meat. I tried e-mealz for awhile and was pleased overall. The menu has good variety, the pricing on the shopping lists is incredibly accurate, and the meals were easy to prepare.

You would have to sub your own fresh veggies, as most meals called for frozen veggies, occasionally canned veggies event. If you go by the recipes, you won't have leftovers for a family of 6, but you probably won't run out of food at the table. We have a family of 4 and usually had small amounts of leftovers.

Some of the meals are designed to provide leftovers for another meal. Like a rotisserie chicken is supposed to last two meals, the second as shredded chicken for soup or something like that. You will have to double up on the main ingredient to get it to go that far. Good luck!
