Dying of Thirst in My 2Nd Trimester

I am in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy and I can't seem to drink enough. I am getting bored of plain water. Does anyone have any liquid suggestion that don't contain caffine? Juices tend to make me more thirsty, and I am trying to stay way from iced tea.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you everyone for their suggestions with the water, I will definately try them. As far as the diabetes goes, one of my daughters is a type 1 diabetic so I tested myself with her glucose monitor and my blood sugar was fine, a bit on the low side actually. I will continue to monitor myself, but wanted to tahnk everyone for their suggestions!

I went through the same thing, and I actually used to wake up in the middle of the night with horrible cramps/contractions if I didn't drink TONS of water all day long... my doctor said it's more common than you'd think.

Anyway - it sounds silly but eating watermelon was helpful for me! It's really high in, well, WATER and it also contains Lycopene which is really good for you. (I forget why, but it's healthy!) I also used to soak lemon and orange slices in my water to make it a little more interesting, but the sad thing is that there's nothing better for you than just plain water. Hang in there.

When I was pregnant, I too was very thirsty. If you have really ice cold water, that is good. I also drank gatorade, and that comes in all different flavors. Don't worry it will pass.

diet rite cola (made with splenda and is caffeine free) is the only thing I know about. Hang in there!

Have you had your glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes yet? Being really thirsty is a symptom of diabetes. If you haven't, I would recommend calling your OB and letting her/him know about your thirst and see if they want you to get tested now.

Watch out - excessive thirst is a sure sign of gestational diabetes. Stop eating all sugars and 'white' carbs - white flour, rice, etc, right now, before your next dr. visit. Also, stop all juice - it's just concentrated fruit sugar. Sorry the water is so boring, maybe milk or peppermint herbal tea (one whilch is just peppermint leaves) made into iced tea - but don't add sugar to it! Isn't it worth boring drinks for a few more months to protect your baby's safety?

Have you tried flavored seltzer?

How about making herbal (decaf) iced tea, and sweeten with a little stevia? (a natural calorie-free sweetener)

If anyone asked what I craved, my response was water! I drank (and still do) Pellegrino with a splash of juice or lemon/lime. Or try a spa trick, they toss in cucumber, too. I also make my own ice tea with decaf loose tea or bags, you can mix up the flavors without all the extra sugar.

Stay cool...

Homemade Lemonade! You control how much sugar!
Also- decaf hot tea, or decaf iced tea- no need to stay away from it if it is decaf- plus tea has antioxidants your body needs!!

tell your doctor, it may be gestational diabetes!

Hi J.,
May God bless you family as it grows again.
As for thirst, did you have gestational diabetes with the twins? I did with my twins. I dehydrated, and went into labor at 19 weeks because I didn't know enough to drink enough. OK so have you had that test yet. It is required here but I don't remember when. Tell your OB about your thirst, could easily be a medical issue.
God bless
