Your brain is "set" to expect a certain experience when you drink, so, like anything at all that we become habituated to, it will take awhile to develop new preferences. The good news is, it can be done. About 25 years ago, I became very ill, and eventually discovered that I had become sensitized to just about every chemical known to man, AND many foods, as well.
I had to give up coffee and most teas, my go-to beverages. Surprisingly, I mourned for two weeks, then it was just not an issue any longer. I actually began to appreciate clean, fresh water. I got a really good reverse-osmosis filter and found out that water can actually taste good. Now it is almost all I ever choose to drink, although I did find a coffee substitute so I could enjoy one hot cup most mornings.
I never liked soda, never drank them, and I have heard that they can become a pretty compelling habit (though not nearly as tough to give up as cigarettes). But I've had a great deal of practice giving things up in my life, including food during periods of fasting. I can almost guarantee that if you want to give up coke, you can, and you won't feel the loss forever. But you have to want something else more than the coke. Health is a worthy replacement, especially when you begin to notice you are feeling better, your skin improves, you sleep better and have more energy! Good luck.
