Did anybody have something happen when they had the Dtap shots done? I have talked to somebody who said her son had convulctions after his Dtap shot.. My son started having this head shaking thing. The health department said to hold off on the Dtap shot till we know why he is doing that.. Dr did and EEG and it did not show sisurs or any prob. He only does this when he eats his bottle... IS has not happen in over a month now.. but I have not got his last Dtap shot I am scard to. I saw a web site that just freeked me out! And because he is so tinny!!! at 9 months and only 3rd% at 17lbs 5 oz. I am not sure when to go get that next shot..

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

He has a regular dr.. One of the best in town... she is not too worried.. but most dr's wont tell you that shots are bad... He was doing the head shaking thing about every other day for a while.... then it went to once a week... then every day... then once a week.. It has been a while since last.. over a month.. but I just worry about if I get that next shot....

I thank you all for your views.. I have read many pages of good and bad reasons to get the shots and not get them.

I have talked with the Dr about this several times. I just have not decided what to do yet. I think I will get it.. Just want to wait till he is a bit bigger. Since they give the same dose to all kids. Just the doctors dont like to tell you the sad storys of the kids who do have bad results of shots... Though they are few.. they do happen..

Thank you all...

Just did not know if anybody had any issues with their kids shots...

If you have concerns I would discuss them at length with your pediatrician. The mistake a lot of parents make is the schedule a doctor appointment and when the nurse asks the reason for the visit on the phone the parents don't mention they have multiple issues to discuss which does not allow the doctor to schedule enough time to visit with the parent and answer questions. Be honest and schedule an appointment just to discuss your concerns so the doctor can reall y sit down with you and give you some fact based answers.

Being in the medical field I would highly caution website information on vaccines. There is a lot of misinformation out there, some of it is very incorrect.

A main concern some parents do not immunize is that they believe vaccines still contain a mercury based preservative called Thimerisol, which some parents believed caused autism in their children. Below is some information about that issue. And again to vaccinate or not is a very personal choice parents must make themselves based on information that is CORRECT. Some of the 'scary' websites out there about not vaccinating your children prey on parents who don't have 'fact based' information. Be an informed parent. Don't let someone scare you into making a decision.

I feel very compelled to mention that the FDA, CDC and other Govt. agencies have pressured the drug companies over the years and Thimerisol has either been completely removed or reduced to trace amounts in vaccines for children. Not all vaccines had Thimerisol in the first place, it was a preservative that was used in multi dose vials in SOME immunizations.

A lot of pediatricians do not even use the multi dose vials. Also the studies done to link Thimerisol to Autism are based on mercury levels. Thimerisol is a "mercury containing organic compound", but is not pure mercury. This means it has "similar characteristics" as mercury but is not pure mercury.

If the human body works in the correct manner, the mercury or its organic relative is excreted in human waste. Sadly, not everyone's body works as efficiently as it should.

The studies done to link Autism to vaccines were based on mercury. It is important to note children and pregnant women can be exposed to organic compounds containing mercury through other means besides vaccines, like seafood, and other environmetal exposure. This is a reason why pregnant women may choose to limit seafood during pregnancy.

But it is also important to note, no "for sure" or definite link has been made. So every parent has to make a choice on what is best for them and inform themselves. I would urge those who are not knowledgable about vaccines not to spread misinformation and scare other mothers. If you need more information on vaccines and if they contain Thimerisol you can visit this website:

www.autismcoach.com/FDA%20Thimerisol%20Information.htm

It also has a link to the FDA website so you can get more FACT based information on Thimerisol.

Does your son have a regular doctor? If so I would call him and see what he thinks about getting your son his shot. Do not worry about how small your son is...my daughter is 18 months and still in the 9th % for weight and height. The smaller they are, the harder they are to keep down. :)

I may really offend some people by writing you this, but I thought you should know. Your child DOES NOT need to get the shots. They are not legally required. You can elect to keep your child shot-free with just a letter from you stating that you have medical and/or religious beliefs against them. Most people do not know this...most doctors do not either.

There is ALOT of research on vaccine reactions. If your child has already shown signs of a vaccine reaction, I would seriously consider holding off on the rest of the shots.
Here is a link I copied from www.icpa4kids.org

"Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS)

The National Vaccine Information Center is proud to announce the sponsorship of MedAlerts featuring a searchable database containing the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS). To search the VAERS database go to www.NVIC.org/Issues/VAERS.htm or www.MedAlerts.org

If you suspect that you or your child has experienced a vaccine reaction, report that reaction to the government at the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System. You can also report a reaction to the National Vaccine Information Center. They have kept a vaccine adverse event database since 1982. To report a reaction to NVIC, click here."

If you'd like to talk to me personally about this, please shoot me an email. In the meantime, I would start looking into chelation therapy to remove the toxins that has entered his system with the vaccine already given.

I truly wish you and your family the best. My child is not vaccinated. I have many friends/family of all ages that are not. It's okay to choose what is in the best interest of your child.

best wishes
J.

I am a nurse with a brand new baby girl. I am not speaking from the medical perspective when I say If your baby is healthy enough to get the shots get them. The side effects of the shot happen very rarely and its sad that you know someone who has suffered. The illness your child can get from NOT getting the shot are much harder to deal with than not getting it. I have seen babies not get immunizied and get critically ill or even pass from whooping cough, menigitis or other things. Dtap is very important and not having the immunization can cause your baby to get whooping cough which is very common in adults but babies cannot fight it. Please get your child immunized aslong as he is healthy and can get the shots. It is very sad to see a child suffer when something can be done about it. I am sorry if I have offended anyone but I dont like to see babies hurt. My baby has had her dtap and nothing at all happened. There is a side effect of a fever that you can give tylenol for.

Both of my boys did this for a short time. Both were breastfed and would start shaking while eating. I asked my ped. about it and she said to keep an eye on it, but the episodes were so short lived (about 20 sec each maybe once a day for only a month or so) that she said it was nothing to worry about. Both of my boys are healthy and have never showed any effects from these shaking bouts. My doc said it was probably just their nervous systems adjusting in certain situations. My boys almost always tried to doze off while eating and this is when they would start to shake. We never linked it to the DTap, but use your mommy judgement. If you think you should hold off then by all means do that.
Hope it helps.

Hi T.,

I have heard some sad stories of children who are never the same after their vacinations. I have to agree with Jeannette... there is no need to pump a child full of something with their little immune systems.
I know it is a tough decision and can make a lot of people uncomfortable. Good Luck and many blessings to you!
