Dry Hair

I was wondering if anyone else went through "hair changes" while they were pregnant and after? When I was pregnant, I had very full, shiny, hair and I'm going through a "phase" where my hair is bone dry on the ends and looks like it just went through a shredder. I've tried everything the stylist told me to do (expensive moisture shampoos, etc), but nothing seems to work. Note: I am a very impatient person, so maybe I'm not trying things long enough. I can't always skip a day of shampooing my hair, because it will be very "greasy" at the roots and look HORRIBLE. I'm just ready to shave it all off! Any ideas or anyone else dealing with this?
Thanks :-)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Wow! I'm excited how many responses I received and how quickly they showed up! Thank you all!!! Sometimes you just feel like, "am I the only one", but you aren't. I have tried the olive oil approach (a friend had suggested it), but I think I will try the mayo/olive oil combo and let it sit under the shower cap. I tend to not give things long enough, because of my impatience, so I'll try to stick with it a bit longer for good results. I also had the issue when my son was 3-4 months old, my hair started falling out (mainly around the top of my forehead), but it did finally grow back. I try not to stress out about stuff like this, but it can be so darn depressing. Especially when I look back at old pictures and see how pretty my hair used to be. :-(
Thanks, Ladies!

Hi! I can help you get to the "root" of the problem. However, I need to talk to you a little more about it. Please give me a call at 877-736-7630 or ###-###-#### or email me at ____@____.com.

Hi K.,
One thing that may help that I didn't see recommended yet is to get a water filter shower head to clear the chlorine and chemicals. This is a major cause of dry hair and skin in my opinion. Then all the other things you're trying will work better also. You can buy these at most health food stores but very cheaply at Lowes and Home Depot:)

I've had similar problems with my hair when pregnant and for a while after. I use Aussie shampoos, they have one called 'Cleanse and Mend'. It's for greasy roots and dry ends. It has worked great for me. Now I keep a couple of different shampoos on hand for whatever phase my hair is going through. Good luck!

hi,
i think you need to take flax seed oil.... i have been a hairdresser and into nutrition for over 30 years.. you are lacking vitamins..and if you are nursing it would be worse.. you need to replace..lots of water. nothing you put on your hair will cure it... you need seaweedsas well....

nori sheets are a great snack and will help add shine.

Hi K.,
I read about your hair problems! I had a friend several years ago who had some problems with her hair, and I can't remember if she had too much vitamins in her system or not enough vitamins. I have also heard some people that eat alot of fish have more Mercury in their system, which may or may not cause your problem. Have you tried typing in dry hair on Web MD? It may help you, good luck, V.

I went through the same thing. It does take time for your hair to replenish, it seems. I am trying really hard to drink my 64 ounces of water a day. Hydration from the inside AND using all the right conditioners and products seem to work. Of course, eating healthy and getting the right amount of sleep help OVERALL Healing of our bodies in every situation. It is hard to do with babies.... I know!

The best thing that I have tried on me and my daughter who is 5 is Biolage Shampoo and Conditioning Balm which comes in a jar. It works better thatn anything that I have used for the last 15 years. Try it I thinkl that you will like it. Also while you were pregnant I am sure that you were taking Pre-Natal Vitamins. That in itself will make you hair and nails grow and look great. Order some Vemma vitamins on-line it is a liquid and taste great! It will really make a differnce in the way you feel and your hair and nails look. You can order Vemma on E-bay much cheaper that through the web-site www.vemma.com. Read up on Vemma on their web-site - I think you will be impressed.

Sincerely.

I had that problem and my older sister told me to put mayonaise on my hair and leave it on for 5 minutes then wash it out it worked and didn't cost me a arm and leg

My stylist told me to keep taking prenatal vitamins. It will keep your hair shiny and healthy as it grows. Also, I have always lived here and I have fine, oily hair that has a tendency to get dry at the ends. To keep my hair from flying away or getting dry ends, I have to use conditioner everyday. I wash my hair, apply conditioner, and then put it up in a shower cap while I bath. I rinse it out as the last thing I do. It helps me tremendously- something about the heat of the shower and the cap. But you have to do it over time to really see results.

Yes! We lived in Florida when we had our first four and it changed during the pregnancy but went back (alright, good with that). We had our last in NC and my hair sounds just like yours. Baby will be 3 in March and ever since having her it has been a struggle. I think the weather plays a big role in all of this. I have started using Head n Shoulders every other day (use Biolage the other days for color treated hair...ahh highlights). It seems to moisture my scalp and tips. I know it says dandruff, which I have never personally had but it seems to work on balancing out my hair! Good Luck! I am looking forward to the answers from your question!!
