I've gotten some GREAT hair advice on this site! I've got another question.

Anyone do it yourself hair deep conditioners that actually work? I've read about coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, mayonnaise, etc, etc, etc.

I have SUPER dry hair that looks like tumbleweeds. I deep condition, but it's not working. I just got 4 inches cut off and my hair still looks like a big dry frizz ball.

It's VERY fine, I do color it because of the gray, but I do NOT wash it every day, I do not blow dry it - I let it air dry. STILL super dry awful hair.
I'm considering a wig or just wearing my hair up in a bun every day and saturate the bun in various oils until my hair grows in healthier.

Any tips?

What can I do next?

I have the same problem...I have been using Matrix Sleek Shampoo and Conditioner and put Matrix Moringo oil in my hair after washing my hair before I blowdry...I also use the oil to tame the frizziness in between washing.

I wash my hair every 3rd day. My hair is not really damaged but it is perpetually dry and frizzy and all this really helps.

Seriously--try adding 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar to a gallon of water after you rinse out your shampoo. You won't recognize your hair!
Sooooo simple--but awesome results!

Go to Sally's and get some Aphogee Gloss Therapy. I stopped washing my hair completely and only use Dove conditioner with the silver lid. I put conditioner in my hair then rinse and repeat. Just like shampooing but I ONLY use conditioner. After rinsing well I slightly towel dry then squirt about a nickel to a quarter size blob into my hand then rub my hands together and rub it into my hair. I get it especially onto the end well. I put a dollop of mousse for curly hair onto the back and ends to smooth it a bit more.

If I dry anything about my hair it's the roots a tiny bit. I let it dry by itself. I don't brush my hair until the next day when I'm going to condition it again.

Again, I do not use any soap or cleansing conditioner at all. I only use Dove conditioner for dry hair, it's a white bottle with a silver top.

You may have to add oil, like Alberto VO5--from yesteryear.

Apple cider vinegar mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water. I put it on my DD's hair once a week, and it makes a huge difference! (I saturate her hair with it, twist it up and clip it, then let it sit for around 5 minutes while she plays and washes her body.. Then rinse.)

How is your skin, and your nails? Are they dry and brittle too? Maybe you need to run a humidifyer in your home/ car/ office. Maybe you need to improve your hydration? maybe you need to have your bloodwork done (thyroid issues can cause changes to your hair). Maybe you need to improve your nutrition. These might each improve your hair, and have fringe benefits in improving your skin, nails and overall health.

My grandmother used to use home made scented oil in her hair. She would infuse olive oil with rose petals. She would part her hair into 6 sections, use a medicine dropper to apply the oil to her scalp at the parts and would use a natural bristle brush to brush it through her hair. I don't believe she washed her hair at all. Instead, if it were getting too oily/ dirty/ greasy, she would sprinkle some baking soda in it, and then thoroughly brush it out.

Hope that helps,
F. B.

Have you tried a vinegar rinse? I do 1 tablespoon white vinegar in 1 cup of water, and use it as a rinse after my conditioner about once a week. It gets rid of all my frizzies (I also have very fine hair).

ETA: I notice that someone else mentioned 1/2 and 1/2 vinegar and water. I heard that too much vinegar can wash out your hair color if you dye it. The 1T to 1C ratio works for me, and leaves my hair color intact.

I heard moroccan oil is great. My sister gets her hair colored but not with chemicals. It is more of a cellophane which colors and conditions.mintead of roots growing out it works more like an iberall fade but she is happier with her hair now.

I steam my roots/scalp and hair. It's sensitive to the elements, so I sometimes wear a scarf when I am out in intense sun. I discovered that my head gets all the benefit of the steam conditioning with none of the harshness of the sun and wind. Massage in your oil of choice beforehand, and you add to your conditioning experience. If I'm going to be washing it soon, I use castor oil and/or conditioner. Otherwise--for between stylings--I use coconut oil. It can be like starting over without having to wash it first.

So, yeah, on my days off or when I'm just running around, I put my hair up in a scrunchy, or just roll it into a bun and secure it with a small clip. I wrap a scarf around it and tie it neatly. Then I dress it up with a moisturized face and hoop earrings, so it doesn't look like I'm supposed to be tucked away at home.

I shampoo every two weeks.

I have dry hair. I have fine hair, too. I used to get compliments on my hair. Now, I don't.

As the hormones change, hair gets frizzy and wavy. Some women, don't get hit with this "curse", but, I did.

I started taking biotin. I wash my hair every four days. The day I wash it, it looks like a frizz ball. I wear my hair up in a loose bun and sleep like that--- to help it look a tad better (The next day).

I do not use Colorsilk color, but, my friend started using it, and her hair is much less frizzy. She puts it on her roots first and then, carries it through. Her hair "drinks" it right up because it is that dry.

Have a licensed hairdresser take a look at your hair. Maybe s/he will have a suggestion.

I use coconut oil in the am and herbal essences naked conditioner when I wash.

I have very similar hair issues - one thing that has helped with the frizziness is using Wen products (purchased on QVC). You have to follow the directions to really see results. Also, as per his recommendation - after my final rinse in the shower I apply a small amount again throughout the lower portion of my hair and do not rinse it out (like a leave in conditioner). I also use the Wen styling products afterwards. Hope this might help you!

I use Aussie's 3 minute miracle on my hair and my daughters. She gets really frizzy/yucky hair during the summer when she's swimming all the time and it helps her. I had really dry hair for awhile because I was coloring it all the time and it really helped me. I do it once or twice a week.

I love Aussie's 3 minute miracle and Fructesse leave in conditioner. I have made a mask for my hair with a smashed avocado and an egg mixed together. It worked pretty well and was not super hard to get out. A friend once used mayo and had to wash her hair 6 times to get it out.
