With my first pregnancy I was asked if I wanted a blood test to confirm - this was in MA.
My second pregnancy they said they don't really do blood tests because the take home tests are so accurate = this was in NY.
But if you want one...call and ask = don't wait for them to offer.
Congrats and best of luck.

I don't see why not - they always do a full panel of blood work when I am going in for the first visit upon suspicion of being pregnant.

Hi T., I'm sure you can. If you suspect you are pregnant when you tell the doctor he/she will suggest a pregnancy test anyway. Hope all is well. Grandma Mary

Yes, at least I have. Be warned that you can still get a false negative if it is too soon. My SIL got one with her second son and didn't find out for sure until she was about 10 weeks pregnant.

T.,
I would ask for it, it is the most accurate. It amazes me how different things are from state to state. I attended nursing school in Springfield, MA and the way things are done was so different from here in CT. In CT a blood serum test is always done whenever someone calls and says they think they are pregnant, even if they had a positive urine test at home. Sometimes you can get a false positive or negative urine, it happened to me. I was in the end of my third month and it was saying I wasn't pregnant, yet the ultrasound and blood serum said I was, go figure. Call your doctor and insist they do it, if they don't then they aren't worth going to in my book.
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
Hugs,
T.

when i went to my doc, it was automatic. i don't know if it was because i took a preggo test first and she wanted to confirm, or if it was just her policy. i don' t see why she/he would refuse.

just wondering what the reason is? they actually do the stick tests in the office just like the ones you can get online. the initial bloodwork is done and they check your levels then. i thought the only reason for a blood preg test would be for if you were pregnant but not pregnant enough for the stick tests. like i know when you do ivf you get the blood one. good luck
