I am in my last few months of pregnancy and throughout I get this sharp pain in
my back. It's in my left shoulder blade and it hurts like you wouldn't believe. It's never my whole back it's sharp, strong pains in certain areas. Is that just muscles stretching? I remember 1 day it was so bad I had to lie flat on the kitchen floor. Did you have pain like this? Some days it's just excruitiating to work and I can't take off early. What can you take for this?

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
Have you had any problems with high blood pressure? I from time to time would have this ache between my two shoulder blades. Rubbing wouldn't help, heating pad wouldn't help, new position wouldn't help. About 10 days before my due date, it got so bad I decided to go to the doctor about it.
Turns out I had preeclampsia and something called HELLP syndrome and they induced my labor. This was the only time during my pregnancy that I ever had high blood pressure.
If you have a quick stabbing pain, maybe this isn't it. But if you have a constant ache that just won't seem to go away, get to the doctor...expecially while you are feeling it. Never can tell.
Good luck!

Hi there!

I had that in my right shoulder blade EXTREMELY bad around my 6th month and on. I still wish I had an idea what it was so I could tell you that but no clue! It was excruciating though. I went to the Chiropractor 3 times and got no relief at all and finally broke down to get a pregnancy massage. I had some minor relief for a few hours but then it was back.

The best thing (And most affordable)I found for it though was icing it for 15 minutes then using a tennis ball in the spot that it hurt. I would lay on it and then when I would get up 30 mins later the spot was quite a bit better. I would also have hubby jab his elbow in it and do it in circles- lightly at first and continuing to add pressure. Anything to fatigue the muscles there. I learned about the tennis ball trick when I was was in PT with bad back pain years ago and have done it ever since for things like that.

In the end though the Dr ended up prescribing me muscle relaxers but I only took one... I was too afraid to even though they were suppose to be safe!

Good luck finding something that works for you! Many blessings!
