Do They Have Play Groups for Older Kids (9 Yr Olds)?
My DD is 9 and we haven't lived here too long in HB. She has met kids through school but most are in sports and she didn't sign up for any (and I think most are ending for summer, right?) I am wondering how to get her to meet new friends. Any suggestions?

Hello S.. A friend of mine suggested that I try a group called MOMS Club International. It's a group geared towards stay at home mothers with kid friendly activities. I've found it to be a wonderful experience for both me and my 15 month old son. I understand that your DD is older but there's a good range of ages in the group I'm in. Perhaps HB's chapter would also have that. You can find their website at www.momsclub.org. There is also the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, Campfire Girls etc.

In Long Beach where I live, the City Parks and Rec has great classes for her age group. I wonder if the city of HB has the same? My boys, now ages 11 and 12, have been in Little League baseball since they were 5. But they have also met and kept several friends from tennis, drama, karate, and various camps they've attended. Also music, dance, or theatre classes are a great way for your daughter to meet new friends. I guess it just all depends on her interests.

Girl Scouts, 4H, karate (Young Champions), gymnastics, classes through the city parks and recreation on weekends or evenings are all good activities!! Help your daughter develop friendships through those....or Vacation Bible School at a local church. I know ours does an evening VBS!!Girl Scouts in Orange has day camp in early July-you can register your daughter as a GS and have her attend!!

Hi S.
I don't have old enough girls for you daughter, but I do have a suggestion for her to meet some friends. The City of Newport Beach has a great looking summer camp down on the beach. It seems reasonably priced. There are surf lessons, water safety, beach volleyball, etc. It's 1/2 or all day M-F. Also - the City of HB has their recreation dept. Go to http://www.surfcityhb.org/Residents/recreation_culture/sa... and sign up for an email alert when the Summer Program gets published. There are all kinds of classes she could take! Good luck!

Hi S.!
You can find MANY different classes through the HB Parks and Rec. Sands catalog. Find it at http://www.ci.huntington-beach.ca.us/Residents/news_publi... . I also send out an email each week of fun places to go. There are weekly park outings of kids of all ages and MANY other possible FUN outings of your choice. If you would like to be added, please let me know.
In the past, I have created get togethers and had my kids invite others (making their own invitations) over for a get together...A Backyard Campout, Pajama Party, Egg Dyeing (even in July! Haaha!) or outings to get kids together. Another option for your daughter to try.
I'm sure she will be having tons of fun with lots of girlfriends in no time!!!
