Anyone with experience with the Disney Movie Club? What are your opinions? I got a special offer which gives me a discount on the normal discounted price for the 1st 5 movies and I am not sure exactly how it works. Is it worth it?

What can I do next?

I liked the Movie Club when I first joined because of the free movies of course. I have to make sure I am very dilligent about responding to my featured titles. They sent me a few that I did NOT want, and because I did not respond, they automatically send it to me. This caused some problems for me because they don't refund for 4-6 weeks. Sometimes the DVD's would get lost in the mail when I would return them. They gave me my refund though. Also, I quit ordering movies with them because it was cheaper to just buy them at the store and not have to pay the shipping cost...

I responded to a similar question a year ago. Do a search for more information from other mamas.

There are 2 drawbacks.

The first being that you need to respond to their "featured" title selections. What I found annoying is there wasn't consistantcy in the time between mailings. The good news is if you do get a title you don't want, you can send it back for credit.

The other thing I found is that the prices are usually quite a bit more through the club rather than purchasing them in the store. However, when you include your special sign up freebies, it all averages out.

Advantages

You can often find titles at the club that are difficult to find in stores.

I joined in the fall and got my first movies to use as Christmas gifts, so it helped with the Christmas budget.

I loved having it, like one mom said just make sure to send the card back if you don't want the movie of the month. We just got a welcome back offer that we are signing up for.

I just got that offer in the mail & tossed. They look like really good deals, but you end up roped in with a minimum purchased required, kind of like a book club, or back in the day when they did music clubs.

i thought it was a great idea until i realized that the "regular priced movies" you have to buy to qualify as a purchase toward your agreement are between $25 to $35 PLUS the cost of shipping!!!! I would not recommend it at all unless you can just afford it. Granted, it is only what 4 or 5 movies you have to buy in 2 years. but still, way cheaper in the long run to just go to walmart or target and buy your movies. or ebay

I am a member. I have probably come out even with the prices of the movies I have gotten. I would always buy a regular priced movie (had to buy 4 in two years) when they were having 60% sales of other movies. Then I could buy a few at a time for a decent price. About the cheapest regular priced movie I could find was $20 and it was an older title. The shipping prices are outrageous though. I think it is $5 for the first movie and a $1 for each additional movie. Something like that. It does not cost that much to ship those movies! For those talking about having to mail in the flyer to decline the movie each month....you can do that online and not have to worry about a stamp. I have a recurring calendar reminder every 3 weeks to log in and decline the featured title, so that is not an issue for me.

The selection of the older movies is much better than those in stores. If you are only interested in getting the newer movies, this won't be worth it for you. It would be cheaper to go to the store.

I got the same offer! I think it's like those CD clubs.

If I remember correctly, the "club prices" are a lot more than the store prices. You notice they didn't put what the actual prices were in the brochure, they just said "as low as $19." That means the awful movies that no one wants are $19 and probably the good movies are $25 or more.

So if the good movies are maybe $30, then if you have to buy 4 then you'd spend $120. Plus the $2 for the promotional offer, so $122. So figure you're probably spending between $13 and $15 per movie. Since I see Disney movies in the store for about $19.99 you're probably saving about $5 per movie.

They had "The Proposal" on the list of Adult movies in the club and I just bought that movie at Best Buy for $12. I also saw some of the other Disney movies on the list for $9.99 at Target.

With the hassle of having to decline the "Movie of the Month" on time or they ship it to you--and then you have to ship it back (even though they pay to ship it back it's still a hassle) I think you could find all the Disney movies you want in the stores for less money. And no obligation to buy 4 more movies in 2 years!

Nope! I hate it...we have only bought the movies we had too...we have not been able to afford to get anything else yet...but every month we have to send in the card saying we dont want the movie of the month....

I was excited about it to begin with.....no I am annoyed.

I would cancel it..but we have now paid our dues and eventually I hope to be able to buy stuff through them again.

So my annoyance is more at the fact every month we have to mail back the flyer...or have to deal with trying to return an unopened movie.

HATED IT! I was so glad when we finished our agreement! If you don't send the card saying you don't want the "movie of the month" in time, it is sent to you and then you have to send it back. The movies are way OVERPRICED! Would not do the movie or book club again!
