Hello ladies. We are in the market for a new dishwasher and was interested in opinions/recommendations from you fine ladies. We need one in the "bisque" color which limits our selection but I would appreciate any comments. Thank you!

We love our Viking dishwasher. I believe you can get it with color panels, but not sure. It holds all my dishware quite well. I also like the fact that I can run a top or bottom rack only load when I have just a few items.

Hi J.,

Take a look at Bosch. They are more expensive than average but you won't have to replace it for a LONG time. They are THE most energy and water efficient on the market, and that's true for other appliances, also the best-made in terms of sturdiness and quality. The company has higher environmental standards (it's based in Germany, which has very exacting manufacturing standards.) They also make great power tools. Check out COnsumer REports for comparisons.

I can tell you what not to get...a Frigidaire. I have hated that thing since I got it a few years ago, but can't really justify a new one yet. It's difficult to get very much into it at once, and for some reason every now and then the top rack glasses/cups come out dirtier than when they went in! Nothing seems blocked - I have no idea why it does this. Wish I had gone with a Bosche. I've heard good things about this brand. Good luck!

Hi J.,

We just purchased all new appliances (GE) but we haven't hooked up our new dishwasher yet so I can't give you a recommendation on it but I will give you a recommendation on where to buy. We purchased at Manual Joseph Appliance Center in Sacramento and they were WONDERFUL! Excellent service, best prices we could find. We worked with Jay Joseph and he was very helpful and absolutely no pressure. My parents bought from them also and they bought bisque so I know if they don't have it on the floor, they can probably order that color for you. Good luck! M.

Bosch is the absolute best! We bought a Bosch in our old house and it actually removed old tea stains in my cups! Bosch is awesome! Our new house doesn't have a bosch and I can't wait for it to die so I can get a Bosch.

Although I am unsure about the colors you can get, we bought ours at Sears... it was a Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) and we are very happy with it. It has the built-in garbage disposal, is quiet and works very well. We have had it over a year now.

This probably won't be any help, but I wanted to remind you to take your dinnerware with you when you look for dishwashers. Take the largest piece you plan to put in it and a dinner plate.

Why, you ask. Well, many styles like Meile or Fisher Pykel are designed for the European style plates, smaller.

I like our Fisher Pykel with two drawers, instead of one. I run a load, which is half of the water needed for a traditional load, without it having to sit and wait to be filled up with all the dishes.

We learned this lesson the hard way!

Our kitchenaid was only 5 yrs old and it had the heat element go out, and we relaced it, only to have then the motor go out. I just went online and found a consumer site that had several pages of complaints on kitchenaid, and almost all of them were the same reasons, the control panels, and the doors falling off. These were from models in the 2005-08 range. People were complaining that they only had a one year warranty and now they know why- after one year they went to hell. The inside of the door on my 4 yr old kitchenaid refridgerator cracked and they wont cover it because they say it's cosmetic. The glass door on my 5 yr old whirlpool oven cracked and they won't replace it- they said it is cosmetic. My 5 yr old GE glass cooktop had a burner go out after one year,we replaced it and now another burner has burned out. The burners are almost the price of the entire unit. My advice is stay AWAY from anything made in china, if you can. My next stop is a salvage yard to find an old appliance that will last forever.
