Be careful with the pills. I've used the Hoodia pills and they work okay. When I started journaling my food intake, that really helped me see what I was eating and helped get my appetite under control. Also drink lots of water. That helps curb your appetite. If you don't like water, try it with the crystal light flavoring. It helps.

Hi A.,
I don't believe there is a diet pill, plan, or meal that actually works unless one is also willing to change what they eat, get into an exercise regime, and drink 1/2 their weight in ounces of purified water daily and then "KEY" stay with that lifestyle.
Did you know that if you were to cut out sugar (to include both diet and regular soda), fast food, anything with high fructose corn syrup and replaced that with steamed, baked, or grilled foods - add the water & exercise - not only would you lose weight, but your body would be a lot healthier?
As for sugar - safe alternatives are stevia and xylitol.
If you've got to have fried, use olive oil.
My products include a weight loss 'program' - Keep muscle, lose fat - which include shakes (vanilla, strawberry, cafe latte, and chocolate - my favorite) healthy recipes, snack bars (chocolate decadence, peanut butter, and lemon-cranberry) a pedometer to track your walking, diary, and support network. I personally do not approve of diet pills. I think that at the worst they can be dangerous, and at the least give false promises. If you are set on taking something, please talk to your doctor first to see if there are any he/she recommends as you want to be safe in what you use.
The best method of weight loss is good diet, and exercise. I recommend Denise Austin's "How to Shrink Your Female Fat Zones." She has a 6 week eating plan and exercises. What I like about it is that she stresses learning healthy eating, vs. dieting (which often doesn't work because once you go back to regular eating you gain the weight back).

I'll probably come across as a party pooper, but here's an article about dieting and how it rarely works the way people are convinced it will. (Call it a modern-day myth.)
"Is Dieting Good For You?"
http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/article/2997/
The better thing is a balanced diet and increased physical activity, rather than trying to meet some arbitrarily set weight or BMI (and BMIs are also notoriously inaccurate at indicating proper weight; see "Body Mass Index: A Big Fat Lie"
http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/article/5200/
and "It's Official: You Can Be Fat and Fit"
http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/article/5682/ )
To explain where I'm coming from, a few years ago I was weighed and BMI'd as part of a weight training course I took in college, and I was told I was overweight because my BMI was 26.9. I was 5'4" and 122 lbs!! I lost three pounds in the course of that year (not by trying) and then got pregnant. My OB told me I was *underweight* and told me I could eat whatever I wanted and gain as much weight as I wanted during my pregnancy, for my health. So, if an underweight woman is rated as "overweight" because of her BMI, it makes me question the whole premise.
I don't want to make you feel discouraged, but rather to help you feel better about yourself and your capacity to make healthy changes without relying on chemical assistance. My husband is an RN and now in medical school, and he says the main thing to be healthy is not dieting but activity level. We just tend to find ourselves too busy to work in physical activity, so we look for shortcuts. Just like we think we have no time to sleep, so we drink caffeine.
Good luck!!

A.,
I have hypothyroidism and for me it is extremely difficult to lose weight. I keep thinking if I use diet pills they will jump start me to losing weight. I am scared of them though because I don't want the caffeine and other ingredients to damage my heart. I joined a free website, www.sparkpeople.com. You can manage your food intake, your caloric intake, exercise, water, etc. This site does it all for you. You just have to visit every day and put in all that you eat. They will provide a meal plan for you based on your daily calories you want to have. I haven't really lost any weight but my friends have noticed that I eat better and watch what I eat. I have a hard time with the exercising because I have multiple ruptured discs in my back and stay pretty stiff. But I am trying, very slowly, but trying none the less. The best book I have ever read about dieting, that will help is the "You on a diet" book. Very informative. Written by Dr's, they explain to manage your waistline and not your weight in pounds. Anyway, try some other things before diet pills, I have read that cinnamon helps, also chromium helps with cravings. Whatever you decide google some reviews about that certain product and you can read what real people think about it instead of the maker of that product feeding lies. Good Luck.

I've not used it, but I know Alli is the only diet pill approved by the FDA. You do have to change your eating habits and exercise and stay close to home for the first few days to see how it affects your body (it can cause diarrhea etc...) You can probably find info online about it. I have been thinking about this as well, it's rather expensive (as most weight loss products are) so I want to be committed before I start.
