Diarrhea and First Year Molars?

Anyone else's children have really bad diarrhea when they were getting their 1st year molars? My 16mo daughter hasn't had issues with teething...until now? She has never been fussy, not had "typical" symptoms of teething, but this weekend has had a really bad case of the runs and has been pretty cranky for the last week and a half...since we figured out she's starting to cut those 1st year molars...

thanks,
Aimee

Okay, I am going to rip this word apart, but get Acidopholis. Drs recommend this for babies/children that have diarrhea, esp when they are on antibiotics. It will not hurt them. In fact, I slip it into my children's cups all the time. You can go to the health food stores or pharmacies and ask where to find it...by the vitamins. Also, be sure that she doesn't have Rotavirus. It could be teething, it may not be. Be sure that she gets plenty of liquids and if it keeps up I would take her in. My daughter had it and it usually starts off with major runs then possibly vomiting. All they do is take a culture from her bottom. If it last more than a day, is constant and she starts getting lethargic or isn't drinking enough water or pedialite...take her in. Better to be sure. Rotavirus is awful, awful, awful for them. They get through it, but they are extremely miserable and can get dehydrated fast. Let me know what happens...I pray it's teething, but don't assume that it is, if her diarrhea is constant and if she seems tired.

Totally normal!! The reason for the diarrhea is because of all the saliva that goes into their tummies. The tummy gets upset trying to digest it (makes it more acidic) and hence you get the end result!! What I found helped my son with diarrhea from teething and from chlorine (from tap water and public pools) is a dose of Mylanta in the AM. I'd start with the first line on a dropper from Motrin and then another one in the afternoon if needed or evening. Helped cut back on the acidicness of it so it didn't hurt his buttom as bad. If his bottom did start to get sore, I'd take a hairdryer on low heat about a foot to foot and a half to his botton (a tip from an ER DR!!) every diaper change and then a good coating of Balmx!! Since air is good for diaper rash the hairdryer takes the place of your naked child running around and having acidents all over your floors instead!! Just try to hang in there and a dose of tylenol and/or some teething tablets might help with any discomfort she is having too!!

my daughter always had nuclear diarhea at the start of teething. I don't know if the teething caused it or if it was the motrin we gave her, but either way, I hear that's pretty common.

Definitely normal! Mine is going through the same thing (18 mo old). My other child did it too. Soooo normal.
Dont worry, just ride the journey of the never ending teething battle boat.

This could be from teething. Try giving her some yogurt or probiotics. Naked juice makes a great one and yo baby is good for the yogurt. The acidophulis will help her tummy to digest everything thats going on:) Has she had any vaccines recently? This could be another cause.
Good luck to you guys!
