Diaper Rash - Lakewood,CA

Thank you in advance for sending me advice! My question is what do you do for diaper rash? Especially when it gets severe ( looks like the skin has some spots where the skin is oozing). Currently I am looking at my diet to see if I ate anything that could cause a sudden reaction, and keeping the area dry and clean and exposed to air (no diaper). Anyone ever tried applying Lanolin? Any ideas welcome! Thank you!

What can I do next?

We used Desitin when it was more severe and A & D otherwise (can use on older kids/adults rashes as well).

I use tripple paste when things get bad and it's always worked with my kids. I will sometimes use the lanolin and sometimes it does work but mostly when it's not bad yet.

My first advice is to call the Pediatrician-u did not say how old the child was, but it may not be JUST A DIAPER RASH-It can and may be a yeast infection which needs a rx cream-PLEASE! call your ped and have the child checked out because those are very painful and it can happen to boys and girls-not just girls-Hope this helped :) L.

E., my midwife showed my sweetie and me this really amazing trick when it came to diaper changes..... ..She said don't use wipes...instead use H20....YES!! ! Good ol' water. Our dazzling son, Dylan Orion, is 2 years old, and we've always rinsed him under the sink or in the bath and he's never had diaper rash. Just wanted to share this gem of a jewel of wisdom with you! : )

When I first started nursing Dylan, I bought this amazing salve called: NIPPLE CREAM by MOTHERLOVE. WOW! Incredible! The label on the jar says you can also use it for diaper rash (though they also have one specifically for DIAPER RASH AND THRUSH), and I've met many MAMAS that have used this BRILLIANT PRODUCT just for that reason! In fact, whenever Dylan used to get drool rash on his chin, I always would use NIPPLE CREAM and the rash disappeared within 24 hours. You can find MOTHERLOVE's NIPPLE CREAM at THE PUMP STATION, WHOLE FOODS and THE GREEN CRADLE.

Here's their website: http://www.motherlove.com

Also, letting your sweetie go au natural without diapers for a lil' bit allows the rash to air out.

I even would suggest changing to a hypo~allergenic diaper like 7th Generation or to cloth diapers.

And, lastly oatmeal baths work wonders for DIAPER RASH.

Hope this helps. : )

With love,
L. (MAMA to adventurously spirited, 2 year old, Dylan Orion....29 September 2007). : )

Hi Ladies,

You all know what I am going to do now, but I must, as I am a lady on a mission (:-+). No offense meant to anyone, but here are my links:

1. MUSTELA DIAPER CREAM : Contains ingredients (PEG 45 and PEG 2) that are in violation of Cosmetic Industry Safety Standards because they have been found to be "Not safe for use on injured or damaged skin" (which is what diaper rash is). Also contains two kinds of Parabens (petroleum chemicals that mimic estrogen and have been found inside of breast tumors).
http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/product.php?prod_id=2633....

2. BUTT PASTE: Contains BORIC ACID -- this is roach poison, and fatal to children on ingestion of a few grams. This diaper cream is also in violation of industry safety standards, because the Cosmetic Industry has concluded that BORIC ACID is "Not Safe for use on Infant Skin." It is an outrage for this company to be using this ingredient in a children's product in clear violation of industry safety standards and, note, it is banned in Japan and elsewhere. http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/product.php?prod_id=1953....

3. A&D: Contains mostly petroleum ingredients, and fragrance (buzz word meaning phthalates), and including Propylene Glycol, the active ingredient in anti-freeze. http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/product.php?prod_id=4814....

4. Desitin: Contains BHA, an ingredient that is listed by the state as "a Chemical Known to the State of California to cause Cancer" (and Desitin is in violation of California law by falling to contain a warning on the package), and which is banned outright in Europe entirely because of its extreme toxicity (EWG gives it a 10). Plus this product has Talc, which is known to cause ovarian cancer and lung cancer, as well as Parabens (again found inside of breast tumors) and a mess of other petroleum by-products. Also has an apparent 40% zinc amount, which is absolutely astoundingly high. http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/product.php?prod_id=111

5. Monistat: mostly petroleum, which is not a good thing to stick inside your woohoo because of multiple contamination issues from gas production. Micanozole Nitrate is a synthetic antifungal, and as its name implies it actually has Nitrates in it.

6. Vusion: contains much the same ingredients as Monistat, meaning Miconazole Nitrate, plus some zinc (15%) and petroleum. The petroleum also contains Butylated Hydroxytoluene or BHT -- which killed 16 infants in 2 hospitals when used in an IV saline solution, and so was removed from use, leading to no further deaths in children.

Also, I was reading the thread on petroleum dependency, and it might be good to note that all of these products are made with actual petroleum from gas production. I'm not sure most people realize the quantity of petroleum they are actually consuming in their personal care and other home products, but it is huge. So if cutting down on petroleum dependency is important, then abstaining from using petroleum products would make a difference (not preaching, just making polite conversation).

Hi E.... my son got a really bad rash when he was a few months old, that would not go away, no matter how or what I treated it with. It turned out to be a yeast infection. My sister had some Nystatin cream, which is prescription, that she gave me and it cleared it up within 24 hours. I've heard you can also use over the counter yeast infection creams and they will work just the same.

I bought a diaper rash cream that is called ButtPaste. Its at walmart or Target and Babies R Us. It is a yellow box with a cartooney baby picture on the box. It worked wonders when my son had a really bad diaper rash.

I use tripple paste when things get bad and it's always worked with my kids. I will sometimes use the lanolin and sometimes it does work but mostly when it's not bad yet.

Many years ago my Daughter had a terrible rash that I could not get rid of no matter what I tried. I took her to the Dr. and it turned out she had a yeast infection. I found it hard to believe my baby would have a yeast infection, he perscribed an ointment (I think it was called Nistation) her rash was almost completely cleared up the next day! What I'M saying is it may be time to take her to the Dr. if nothing else is working, maybe its a yeast infection.
Good Luck! S. in Vegas

Calendula Diaper Care cream by Weleda. It's the best. put it on thick!

I am currently dealing with this. I try to give my daughter as much naked time as possible. I pat her dry before putting on the diaper, and then apply Butt Paste. I also switched to disposable until I get better inserts for my cloth since she is such a heavy wetter. Also, change as often as you can.

When it just looks so dry, I also put on MotherLove Diaper Rash and Thrush cream. My son says it feels good, so I figure my daughter would like it too.
