Hello mommas, I am looking for daycare advice for my 16 month old daughter. I currently am taking her to an in home childcare and have been since she was 12 weeks, it has been the best experience, but I am wondering when are you supposed to make the transition to school or a school like setting. If it is time what school is the best for this transition. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

A.,

I have taught and directed childcare for years.
It has been my experience that inhome daycare is one of the BEST options for children. As long as your child has at least one good year of preschool she will be set for Kindergarden. Most MDO programs do not focus on acedemics. But most full time preschools have part time programs as well. From 8 or 9 til noon or 2pm is when they do most of their curriculum. I would highly recommend a christian preschool if at all possible. It wouldn't hurt to get on the list at one you like when she is three for the next year when she is four. I hope that made sense.
I hope this helps, but I would keep her in the care she is in until she's 3 or 4. Sunny Days Christian Preschool is in Frisco and I highly recommend them. But I would search for preschools in your area first and tour them.
Hope this helps.

My sister has her two younger kids in an in-home daycare. They are 10 months and 2 1/2 years. Her oldest, just turned 4, is in a traditional preschool. My sister transitioned her when she was 3. I think that alot of traditional preschools or MDO prefer kids to wait until they're 3 or almost potty trained. If you're happy with your in-home daycare I would stick with it until she gets closer to 3 and can really benefit from a preschool setting.

we moved our son from in home to pre-school at 2.5 years.

there ARE a few in homes that provide some really good structured preschool curriculum. If you can find one of those, I would do that instead of a center. It wasn't available to us where we live, but that's OK because we found an AWESOME preschool near us and were lucky to get in at the age we wanted to transition our son.

Good luck!!!

You might want to call around. Some daycare homes teach preschool, like mine. Then you could have her stay in a home setting until she has to go to kindergarden.
