Daughter Pooping in Night Causing Rash

Thank you to all of you for your information on my previous post about my daughters diaper rash. We have stopped all juice and things are getting better untill this morning. I forgot to mention that with my daughter and her rash she sometimes will go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. With this in mind she will go to sleep with dirty pants and not wake until the morning when i get her up. My question is how do I get her to go to the bathroom before she lays down at night. She has done this more often then not and I do not find it until the next morning. This could be the cause of her diaper rash. She has slept through the night since 6 weeks and I am afraid that if i wake her to change her pants she is going to want to stay awake and not go back to sleep. Any advice would be appreciated. I just want her to not be in any more pain.

Thank you all

someone once told me there are three things you just can't MAKE a baby do and they are: eat, sleep and poop. They never seem to do these things when we want them to. With that being said, I just don't know if there is anyway you can make her go before she lays down at night. What I would do since the rash sounds bad, is causing her pain and being in a dirty diaper for any period of time will not help the situation, is change her during the night. Put her to bed and then when you go to bed check her diaper, change her if necessary or if she's not dirty then, I would probably get up during the night to check it again. When you change her during the night keep lights as dim as possible, don't talk to her, leave her in her crib and before taking off the dirty diaper slide a clean one under her then take off her diaper, clean as quickly and gently as you can and then just fasten the clean one. I've been able to do it with them either not waking up or just stirring a little with no problem going back to sleep.
My two girls both slept through the night at 8 weeks so I know how you don't want to loose that, but I think she's probably been sleeping through the night long enough now to have developed a strong sleep pattern/habit that a gentle diaper change shouldn't disrupt her too much. Good luck - I hope the rash clears up soon.

Good Morning D., If she won't go potty before bedtime try this to curb the rash.
In a small bowl with a lid ( i use a fruit or pudding cup with a lid) put in a good dollop of A&D ointment, then mix in some Maalox to make a paste. It does take a few minutes to mix up. Put this on her little hinny, you will see a difference the first time you try it. Our gr son's nurse told us about this and he hasn't had the cracked bleeding rash since.

It really does work!!

God Bless you and her little hinny ;)

My friend used to use a rectal thermometer on her son to get him to poop, and then he didn't go at night. She had him lie down on the changing table with a clean diaper under him, and she inserted the thermometer just as if she was checking his temperature. After a while, he just knew that it was time, and he pooped by himself.

My son is 2 and poops nearly every night! We just check on him before we go to bed and if he is poopy we change him. He is usually so asleep he barely wakes up and always goes right back to sleep with no problem. He is a light sleeper so I was worried about him not going back to sleep too, but thankfully it hasn't been an issue. We joke that he must need privacy because the only time he really poops his at night or at nap! I really think changing her at night will help her rash. Good Luck. :)

Our DD is 2 1/2, and she has the issue of pooping at night sometimes. Our solution is to sniff her room before we go to bed, to see if she's poopy, then we change her if she has. She is usually so asleep by this time that she barely wakes up when we're changing her. Good luck!
