My husband and I have been married for 8 years and met on Match.com. I met a lot of people on the website, I thought it was great. My only advise is to meet for lunch or for drinks, especially if you can do it on a weekday. It is always a quick out that you have to go back to work, or that you have something to do that evening. That way you can get out if the person is not what you expected. I also always liked to talk to the person on the phone before I met them, for some reason I could tell so much more about a person over the phone than I could over email. I would email them back and forth or chat online, then do the phone and if all went well then a date. Good luck and happy dating :)

I am currently on Plenty of Fish and Ok Cupid both free sites. Be careful when doing on line dating do not give out any personal info except maybe a cell number. Always meet in a very public place and do not invite them to your home until you really know them.

I have met some nice guys I didn't click with but I have also met some total nut cases.

One of my coworkers that I became close to got married about 6mo ago to a wonderful man she met on a dating site, but I don't know which one she used. My cousin has used them and I think she uses match.com and she said shes had some good dates and relationships (I think) from men shes met on that site. She said the biggest issue is its time consuming, because you have to go through all of the profiles and etc. Shes travels a lot for her job and shes lives in an affluent area and I've heard that some of these guys she dated were self absorbed trust fund babies, but she has met some nice ones. She did tell me though how shes gone out with a guy and thought everything went well and then he never called her again and she was hurt b/c he was a neat guy.
My friend that got married, gosh, thats a match made in heaven, beautiful relationship, really down to earth people, super nice guy!!!!

Ya know how here there are people that are not how they are in the real world? Yeah, imagine that on crack! I tried eHarmony for a few months and did their message board. What I found is if you are lucky enough to find someone who just got on you are in luck. Those that have been on for a while apparently go nuts. They have their must haves and red flags and god forbid they use their brains to figure anything out.

My favorite was this lady who was 50 something that new the guy that would worship her in spite of being ugly inside and out would come and so she waits.

Thing is you will find someone who is very compatible yet they will think they can do better than you because you are not what they ordered. Like it is a catalog. So they turn you down. The good news is you dodged a bullet, the bad news is if you take it personally it can hurt.

I guess I am saying on online dating it really is them. :p

To give you an idea of how effed up it is, my husband and I were on the same site, we would never have been matched yet we are perfect for each other.

I used match.com in my late twenties and early thirties. I found quite a few guys who just wanted to hook up - which was not what I was looking for.

My main advice would be to proceed slowly and cautiously with anyone you meet online. When you meet through friends, you both have some sort of accountability to the "group." If he acts like an jerk, all your mutual friends know, which lowers his dating stock. :)

When you do not have mutual friends - the "bad" in bad guy is more likely to come out.

I DID meet lots of nice, good guys who ended up being friends. I ALSO met lots of con men and bad guys. Just proceed very, very, slowly until you can figure out which kind of guy you are sitting accross the table from.

I have 1 female friend & 1 male friend that have successful marriages from online dating sites. One is Match.com, but I don't recall the 2nd one.

My female friend met an amazing man. They have been married 5 years and are expecting their 1st child. He works for a very very well known company, making huge bucks.

My male friend is a coworker with my husband. He isn't the best looking guy but married a very beautiful woman. They have been married almost five years and have 2 children. I have gotten to know her very well and she is a great person.

None of the couples mentioned, had children or were married before.

Go for it. Just be careful.
