Dark Line

I had my son over two months ago. Late in my pregnancy I noticed a dark line running down my stomach. The books said it would fade after I had him, but the line is still there. And quite dark as well. Am I just being impatient? Or is it really going to be there forever. My daughter is 6 so it's been too long for me to remember how it was with her.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your input. Patience isn't one of my strong points, but I shall try.

I also had my son a little over two months ago, and was left with a dark line on my belly. A friend told me about this stuff called Bio-Oil, and I've been applying it to the line every day. It's definitely made a difference! Bio-Oil is for any type of skin discolorations, so it's perfect. You can get it at any drug store. Good luck!

Hi A. -

I had that same dark line, and it was about 8 months or so before it really faded out. Have patience, it should go away. I remember feeling the same way and wondering if it would ever go away.

Hi A.,

Congrats on your new baby! This "dark line" is normal and is caused by increased pigmentation during pregnancy. It can take a LONG time to go away - sometimes nearly a year. Don't worry about it - it is normal and it will eventually fade.

Congrats again on your new little boy!

The dark line is called linea nigra-it is present during the pregnancy and will fade in a couple months after delivery. I hope this answers your question. Be patient it will go away eventually.

I had the same thing and I had to use an exfoliator and an exfoliating pad. You have to scrub it off!

I had the line with my son and it didn't go away until about 7 months after he was born. I'm nine months pregnant now and I have the line again....and I'm hoping it goes away more quickly this time! Hang in there!

Hey A.! I had my daughter 16 mos. ago and my line, unfortunately, is STILL there too! However, Its really light now and I feel like I can prob. wear a bikini on the beach. (It was so dark last summer) Im finding that it is only on the little bump that is still my belly. I lost all my baby weight and then some, and I found that the line stayed on the part of the stomache that just wont go away!!!! I do have friends who claim theirs went away.

Hi A.,

I had the same thing with my two children (3 years old and 1 year old). It faded after time - maybe about 6 months for me. It will fade - I'm not sure you can do anything to speed it up. Patience is not my strong suit, so I can relate!

Hi! I also got a very dark stomachl ine during my pregnancy (as well as very very dark stomach pigment that makes me look like I layed in the sun with a long sleeved half shirt and pants!) I just had my 6 week post partum exam with my OB last week and he said that it may or may not go away and that everyone is different. He would expect it to go away by summer if it's going to go away and I had my twins on 1/3. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Hi A.,
don't worry; it will go away, I promise. I was pregnant 6 times and I don't have a line... I had one in each preg and they went away... I honestly don't remember when now, since my 'baby' is 16 now, but it will go away...

God Bless,
S.

It does take a while! Especially if you are nursing, it will take even longer. I think mine was at least 6-8 months before it started fading. Rest assured, it will go away!

I had this too, much darker with my daughter than my son. I can't remember exactly how long it hung around, but I do remember it lasting quite a while. I think that 2 months is on the early side for it to be gone, especially depending on how dark it started out. Sorry I couldn't be more help :)

It is simply a hormone line. Once your hormones are down and back to normal, it will start to fade. It will take time. Hey, it is YOUR mark of motherhood!! You cannot wash it away or put a miraculous cream on it to make it go away, it just will. Be patient. Good luck with all you are doing!!

A.,
My dark line lasted forever too. I loved it during pregnancy -for me pregancy was amazing. But after I had my son, I hated the look of my belly especially with the line still there!! It did go away slowly. I don't remember which month I finally stopped noticing it, but I'm sure it was long past the two month mark. Hang in there!!
Good luck with your degree!

The line I got was never really that dark but it has faded. My son is 8 months old now and I don't remember how long it took to fade but it did. I would say it probably took about 4-5 months.

It took almost a year for me and the mask of pregancy on my face took longer (finally gone after 2 years). I have red dots all over that never went away and doctor said never will-broken blood vessels.

It will go away once your hormones settle down.
