with my first pregnancy they found a cyst on one of my ovaries. I don't know how long it has been there and my oldest daughter is now 3 and I have a 1 1/2 year old. It has never bothered me (although I think that might have been why I had such bad cramps when I was younger) and they have never done anything about it. I think as long as they don't cause any problems and don't look at all suspicious then they just leave them be.

Very common and yes, it produces progesterone to maintain the pregnancy till the placenta takes over. I had one with my first that was large and like SB said I was monitored until it began to resolve/they couldn't see it anymore (due to size of my uterus and growing baby) but at that point there was no more risk to the baby because the placenta would have taken over.

Ask your doctor about the size and if they are concerned. The ultrasound techs really aren't supposed to tell you anything. That's the doctor's job. I would call and ask to speak with a nurse about it just so you know what you are dealing with.

I had a cyst on my left ovary as well when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. They watched it closely and I even went to a specialist twice to make sure it was not harming the baby. Mine was so large that I had to have it removed and they even warned me that they may have to take one of my ovaries. I haven't had any problems since they removed it, and I got to keep my ovaries. :)

Hope this helps!!

I got one with my second pregnancy. The pain it caused was just a bit annoying...and since I was pregnant it made me worry more. It felt almost like a cramp you may get in your side after a long run. The doctor monitored it. He said it would most like resolve itself. Mine was large..it got to be larger than a grapefruit apparently. The doctor said that the larger ones could twist - which he said was extremely painful and I would most likely be sent to an emergency room. If it twisted or ruptured surgery would be needed...he assured me the risk to the baby was minimal. So for me, it just meant a little annoyance and extra sonograms. Mine shrunk on it's own and caused me no issues with my pregnancy. I lasted a while...into my second trimester.

How big was it? As long as it wasn't 2-3 cm, then most doctors aren't alarmed. Most ovarian cysts are small--But you should know, that if it bursts it will HURT regardless of how big it is!

You want to know where it was (you don't want it to cut off blood to your ovary and suffocate it) and you don't want it to grow so big that it encompasses the ovary. I had one that grew to be bigger than a quarter, smaller than a half dollar... It had to be removed by surgery. So, depending on what kind of delivery you have (e.g. if you plan to have c-section for other reasons), how painful or problematic it is, you could ask your doc to remove it at the same time.

My friend has this on her current pregnancy and had the same thing on her first as well. She also said it's normal and that the bigger her belly gets, the more the baby sometimes pushes on it and she can feel it, but overall nothing to be concerned about. Good luck!

Yeah, I also had one. No big deal, it didn't affect me one bit. I was told they're somewhat common. I wouldn't be concerned if your doc isn't.
