Does anyone have the exact recipe for the cucumber and onions with the sour cream and vineger recipe. I have been making it but it is different everytime because I Am just guessing at the measurements. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. I have been adding just a pinch of sugar. I know not everyone does that but my mom said to. Thank You in advance

I'm not a fan of sour cream, but have always done just the vinegar....
slice cucumbers paper thin (can add onions if you want)
put in container
pour a bunch of salt on them
let sit for awhile
squeeze out the water from the cucumbers (and dump what's in the bowl)
pour in some equal parts vinegar and water
chill & serve

sorry...I don't really measure much!
this is the way my dad & grandmother always made them (Hungarian!)

Here is how my mom has always made it. She uses a 1 gallon ice cream bucket as her measuring tool.

8-10 cucumbers (or enough to fill bucket)
1 large yellow onion
1 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. sour cream
salt

Slice cucumbers and onion VERY thin. Place one inch layer of cucumbers in bucket and a small layer of onion. Salt layer. Repeat layers until bucket is full. Dump everything into a large mixing bowl and add vinegar, sugar, and sour cream. Mix everything together and return to bucket for storing until ready to eat.

Obviously my mom's mixture has a bit more sugar than what you have been doing, but her's turns out great everytime she makes it. Speaking of which, if she still has some made up, i may go get myself a cup full :)

I have never added vinegar to the cucumber and onions. I use sour cream, a little sugar, and garlic ( garlic salt, or garlic powder or fresh garlic) onion and cucumbers and salt to taste then we eat it right away. If I remember right you are supposed to cover the cucs with salt and let the salt draw out some of the moisture then rinse them off and mix with the other ingredients but we don't let our sit we eat it right away so the moisture isn't a problem. As for vinegar that is a different recipe with water, vinegar and a little sugar start with the salt and cucs then rinse and add into the other ingredients. I very rarely measure for most of my recipes I just know when it looks or tastes right sorry I can't be more help.
