Costco Brand Diapers: Any Good?

Hi Moms! Currently I have been using Pampers Baby Dry because they are pretty much the only diaper my skinny heavy-wetter toddler won't leak through & I only have to change him once a day (I'd love him to be potty-trained at this point, but we don't always get what we want WHEN we want it :>).

Anyways, I read on a mom-blog somewhere that she was surprised at the quality of the Kirkland diapers & wanted to know if there were other mom's that think these diapers are at the same quality / absorbancy as Pampers. I wish I could buy a smaller amount but I really don't want to shell out $50 for a trillion diapers that just don't cut it for us! It doesn't seem like I'd be saving a whole ton of cash as they run about 26 cents a diaper...kind of pricey in my opinion, but I'd still like to know what others' opinions of them are. Thanks moms!

ETA: WOW - lots of great responses! I see a lot of you compare them to Huggies, which didn't really cut it for us - too many leaks. So, I went ahead & ordered a sample - I know a one-time use isn't really going to tell me too much, but I might feel more confident afterwards & if I can find a coupon as well! Thx for the feedback - & by "heavy wetter" I only mean at night - he really does stay pretty dry during the day, which is why he only get a change just before nap - otherwise the diaper stays fairly dry (at least in Pampers). And yes, I totally love the Costco wipes as well - now THAT is a bargain!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I decided to just order a trial of the diapers & I actually got 2 to try. Both of them held up fine, no leaks. Granted, the quality & softness isn't to the Pampers standard, but they did the job & really, isn't that all we really need in a disposable diaper? So, I'm glad for the question & we'll now be getting Costco diapers, especially since baby #2's arrival is 3 mths away! Thx for all the great responses, mamas!

Actually, Huggies gave us tons of leaks. I would say they are more like the Pampers Cruisers, which are stretchier than the Baby Dry...and we have never had a leak with the Kirkland diapers in the 2+ years we have used them.

I used the Pamper Swaddlers and I decided to try the Kirkland brand for my daughter and I personally didn't like them. They were not as soft (seemed cheap) and they are definitely not as comfortable as the Pampers Cruisers. I would rather my daughter be comfortable than save a few bucks, but a lot of people do use them. I do love the Costco wipes though!

They're terrible - glob up when they get wet - leak over night - fall apart.
Order Pamper'z at Amazon.com & get $igned up for $ub$cribe & $ave - they'll $hip your order every month & you get more diaperz in the box than Co$tco - it'z a little bit cheaper and the $hipping iz free. The convenience of never having to run out for back-up diaperz iz fabulou$!!!
My kid broke a letter off my keyboard - I do know how to zpell. ;)

It looks as if you've gotten some very positive respnses to this. I'll add that our granddaughters have used them and they worked great. Working in childcare I've seen about every brand of diaper there is over the years, and found the Kirklands to be the best in my opinion. One thing you notice quickly working with a lot of children is that some diapers seem to promote diaper rash. I found the children wearing the Kirklands seemed to have less tendency to rash than those wearing Pampers.

I am curious though, about you saying you only have to change your son once a day. Why is that? It can't be good for him to be walking around in a wet diaper all the time, and it seems to me that if you want him to potty train you'd want to let him know how good it feels to be dry. In childcare we are required to change a child at least once every two hours, and if we know the child is wet or poopy, more often. For smaller infants we have to check hourly.

Disposable diapers are still meant to be changed a lot more often than once a day!! I know my 19-month-old does NOT like that nasty jelly stuff between her legs. Even in 'sposies, a toddler should still use several diapers/day. My kids wear cloth at home, but 'sposies if we're traveling or out all day. I figure about 4-6 diapers/day for my toddler, twice that for my newborn. The higher number is cloth, the lower is disposable. The toddler stays dry while asleep for the most part, the newborn, of course, does not.

Yes. They were great for us. My son was a skinny little kid and I loved the Kirtland brand. Now mind you, he's 6.5 yo now so it's been a while! Still using the Kirtland wipes though for everywhere (so handy in the car!)

PS every now and then I got a "bad" diaper(s) (the gel would get all funny) so I'd call and complain and they'd send some replacements.

I also REALLY love the Kirkland brand diapers. I think they fit great and my little man isn't super skinny but not c*** on him either. The only problem you might run into is if you are an only Pampers mom. It seems to me that most people who like Kirkland were fans of huggies before they switched. I believe they are even made by Huggies company. Anyway I love them, but I hated Pampers....

I believe they let you return them if you are unsatisfied.

I used Costco diapers too. However, I found that Target, Long's and Walmart's brand were cheaper and were better. The store brands didn't fall apart or leak! Why spend all of that money when you can get ones just as good by a store brand?

LOVE LOVE LOVE kirkland diapers and wipes. They are of surprisingly good quality, and you absolutely can't beat the price for the number you get.
We used them forever until my big old 3 year old got too big for them - then we moved to the kirkland brand pull ups.
My kiddo is somewhat prone to diaper rash and has very sensitive skin, but we never had a moments problem with kirkland brand.

I used huggies for a long time and then one day opted to try the costco brand, after that I was hooked on them. I have twins and they worked great with both of them, even with one having a sensitive bottom.
The costco website was just giving out FREE samples. I don't know if they still are but it's a great way to try them out.

Hey V.~
I tried the Kirland and didnt like them, we stick with the pampers baby dry also. They never leak on us. My sister in law LOVES the kirland diapers tho, stands by them. We do use the kirkland baby wipes. Costco always has coupons for the diapers and wipes in their coupon book which is great. Another great thing about Costco - they take returns. So if you dont like the diapers - bring 'em back! ;o)

I love them! Thats all our 2 year old wears. He's in a stage 4 now about in the 30% area for weight. He doesn't seem to have the leaks like we had with the Huggies and Pampers. (With both of those we would be having to change his sheets in the morning almost daily because he has soaked through. I have found with the great big box that we are only buying it like everyother month since there are so many diapers in there. I hope that this helps. Alot of times too, there are coupons for the diapers when Costco does there coupon books which helps too :-) Hang in there!

We've been using the costco brand diapers since my daughter was 6 m, she's now 2y5m; and have had no problems! We started using the costco brand pull ups since she's been potty trained and those have worked really well too. I wouldn't call her a heavy wetter, though, just average; although she did have a time when she would drink a lot in the night (water) and even then we didn't have any night time leaks. I like buying in bulk personally, don't have to go back to often to the store! hope this helps!

I really like them. They are thick, the hook & loop is strong, and they are a super value. I read here that some like the walmart brand, but in my experience, the outside feels wet to the touch when they're pretty full. Like other moms, my experience with Kirkland is that my daughter doesn't need her sheets or clohtes changed first thing in the a.m. like with other diapers. I think you should give 'em a try :-)

These are our favorite diapers! And hands down the cheapest yet still quality diaper.

I've never liked pampers (other than swaddlers) because they are scented. I love the Kirkland because they are like a Huggies Supreme. My kids have sensitive skin and these feel so much more stretchy and soft around the waist and don't irritate their skin. They did start carrying the smaller sizes now too. Unfortunately I didn't notice until my youngest was out of those sizes but i'm glad a friend recommended these diapers because they are good bang for the buck.

I started out with Pampers myself, my some was 2 months early and that was what the NICU used. They sent me home with a great supply too so that was great. For a few months after we got home they were still the only one's that actually fit him (he was in preemiw size for about 4 months total) After that I kept with them b/c that was what I was used to. I visited my sister one weekend and forgot diapers so I had no choice but to use her's. After that weekend I was hooked on Costco diapers. They work great for my very active toddler and hold out for hours if need be. They do leak sometimes during the night if he sleeps him 13 hours straight. The price has gone up a little but still cheaper even if it is a few cents.

I think they are pretty good, but I could never use them because my kids would always develop a rash everywhere the diaper touched when I would use them. So, just be careful if your kid's skin is sensitive. Maybe borrow a diaper or two from a friend to try them out before buying a whole box?

Costco brand diapers are great. I have used them for both of my daughters. They were only able to use pamper, everything else gave them rashes. However with the Costco diapers we never had that problem. They are comparable to pampers. We are Pamper or Costco diaper people they are the only that hold in the wetness and keep the rashes away.

Hi V.,

I use Kirkland brand and love them. They absorb great and are large enough to fit a toddler whose time to go in the potty hasn't come yet (sigh)!! Great for the price!

Forgot to mention: Costco is great with returns. If you buy them, try them and don't like them, you can take them back for a refund!! I did this when I bought the wrong size the first time.

Have a great Christmas season!

I have a 7 month old and swear by Kirkland brand. However your little on is in a different stage and you really don't know until you try them. Let me say that my lil' one is rolling on the floor all day most days exploring and is only in the 35 percent for weight and they keep her dry (and my carpet/her clothes). Good luck!

We love Costco brand diapers, they aren't scented like the pampers and hold up a little better than the huggies, I use them for both of my girls 2 yrs and 8 weeks.. The last time my husband bought me diapers for the girls it was 37.99 for one box and 29.99 for the other, one box came with 184 (the size 4's) and the other came with 216 (the size 1-2's) my 2 year old takes about 1-2 months to go through her 184 diapers and my 8 week old takes about 1 month to go through hers.. they are a wonderful value and I haven't had any problems with night time leaks... they also hold up really well for how active my 2 year old is.. Good luck on your search!!

I used them once but I didnt like how they clumped some. My sister had used Walmart's Parents Choice diapers with er son and she really liked them. I tried them and really liked them too. I used them the whole time my son was in diapers! They also have a reasonable price. I remember a big yellow plastic bag full of diapers (not as many as the costco box) for about eleven dollars.
good luck
