Does anyone have any personal experience with Coram Deo Academy in Flower Mound? My daughter is only 3 1/2 so we are just starting to research private schools. I love the part time class schedule, but I wanted to hear from parents who send their children to school there if it really is as great as it sounds. We really want our children to have a well rounded Christ centered education.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. I feel like you have really helped to make my decision to send our daughter to school at Coram Deo an easy one, and I still have a year to officially make up my mind.

K.,

We have friends whose children attend there and they absolutely love it! They even have sports for the kids to play! Pretty cool for a part-time school/homeschool.

They like the school so much that they are moving to that area so the kids will be closer to school, even though the husband will then be further from work.

Hope this helps.

Coram Deo Academy may not be screening their staff very carefully.

Teacher Stephanie Weinzierl and her husband were the top reps for a religious scam, Advantage Conferences. That pyramid scheme sued the Dallas Better Business Bureau and lost in Summary Judgment in September 2006. 98% of the Christian reps involved lost money. Many were out thousands and thousands of dollars. After that suit the Weinzierls continued to promote that obvious scam using the Bible to empty the pockets of their fellow Christians.

Jack Weinzierl threatened and Advantage Conferences owner, Tim Darnell, followed through with a lawsuit against me. Again they lost in Summary Judgment. Tim Darnell and Jack Weinzierl had made false criminal allegations of me stalking them and sending death threats and all that was proven to be fiction in court. They were not able to provide a single false statement made by me.

Jack Weinzierl filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in the summer of 2008. He and Stephanie were claiming in MLM ads months later to be multi-million dollar earners. They blew through a dozen different MLMs / "long term" deals.

Don't let these wolves in sheeps' clothing burn you too. Tell Coram Deo to screen their faculty with more care. It is time for truth and transparency. All of the court documents and facts can be found on www.realscam.com.

My oldest son is in 1st grade at CDA (he also attended Kindergarten there). We love it. The academics are amazing--we like the classical education curriculum. The way things are taught connect many of the subjects together which makes more sense and I am learning along with him. I never thought of home schooling so it took a little bit of a mind switch for me, but once we figured out a schedule I can't imagine doing anything else. I love that we are spending more time as a family. My son can get involved in extra stuff like karate, swimming and golf lessons on his home days so we can spend after school and weekends for family time. We plan on sending all the boys there. Please contact me if you would like to email, talk or get together. I would be glad to share our experience!

My kiddos don't go there because we homeschool full-time, but I have friends whose children attend Corem Deo and some who attend Calvary (at Denton Bible). They are all very happy with their choice. I have heard that Corem Deo is more challenging than Calvary, but they are both good schools.

Good for you for researching already!
I send my daughters there and really like it. It is the best of both worlds--socialization plus one one time for studies, no curriculum to plan. The one thing you have to keep in mind though, you are on a schedule and you need to get the items done on the home days. The program is classical Christian (which I love!). Lots of emphasis on the Bible, history, literature (classics) and starting in 3rd grade Latin. The math and reading start in K as very basic and the basics get pounded in over and over. By the time your child starts third, the curriculum gets pretty intense. I have a fourth grader and I can tell you it is very tough. Please email me if you'd like any more info.

Hi K.,
I used to send both of my children to Coram Deo in Carrollton. They have a great staff and wonderful teachers. The issue with most parents is that they see a two day program and think Wow! I can do that! Coram Deo has a very tough program. It is not the curriculum, it is the schedule. You will find yourself trying to finish the work on Saturdays, Sundays, everyday of the week. For us, our family, we did not want to be tied to their schedule. I was pleased with the Kindergarten curriculum ...we stayed until the end of the 2nd grade. If you only have one child in their program, it will very likely work for you. However, when you get into two and three kids, they require so much attention...it can be very hard. Again, great school, tough on the workload.
Good Luck!

From what I know of Coram Deo through a friend who sends her children there, it is part-time school approach with the remainder being homeschooled by the parent with heavy involvement. It is a classical school methodology and is therefore very intense in nature (i.e., public speaking in the first grade, classifying sentences in 2nd grade, etc.) We sent our son to Denton Calvary Academy last year and were pleased. It also is a homeschool/part-time school structure but we live in Keller and the drive was killing us. We have homeschooled our son until this current year. If you are looking for full time schooling, our son is in the 2nd grade at Messiah Classical Lutheran Academy in Keller and we couldn't be more pleased. We are not of the Lutheran faith and a good percentage of the school families are not, but you can't beat the education and the wonderful. Godly environment! Hope that helps. I can have my friend email you about her experience if you'd like to email me directly. ____@____.com
