Concerned Mother of 2 Year Old

Not to frighten you, but did you see the episode of Prah where the child drowned in his sleep after they where at the pool that day. aparently the child (7 or so) had swallowed water into his lungs (went in the wrong way) and he was coughing and feeling a little sick, next thing the grandmother knew he died in bed after taking a nap. I have never heard of it but, it does happen. Just a freak & horrible accident. So now you know this can happen and you can keep a look out. Hope he is all well!!

You should definitely call your pediatrician. I heard this story regarding 'Dry Drowning' and it has really scarred me a ever since. I hope everything is OK, and good luck.

I'd ask his pediatrician, but it sounds like he's sensitive to the chlorine. I'd stop taking him, unfortunately.

That sounds like he might be allergic to the chemicals in the pool since it happens at different pools. Call you peditrician and see what she says.

He could have a sensitivity/allergy to chlorine or any of the other chemicals. Pools actually have several chemicals in them at once (my parents have an inground that I was responsible for maintaining - some of the info you pick up over the years, right?) Anyways, pools can have chlorine, a pH lowerer (we used sulfuric acid), a pH raiser (we used baking soda) shock/algicide chemicals, and a few other less well known ones. I would take him to the doctor and explain the situation. Be clear with the doctor that you have tracked this phenomenon and it's every time, and too regular to be coincidence. He could also be inhaling small amounts of water. Sometimes it's hard to notice if they do this. Best advice it to take him to the Ped. and explain everything.

Hi, K. - It could be a reaction to the chlorine fumes. Bleach is a huge asthma trigger for some folks. Do you ever notice similar symptoms after running your dishwasher, doing laundry, or cleaning? Do you use chemical cleaners at home or environmentally safe ones? Good luck to you.
