Color in Black and White Photos

I was wondering if anyone knew how to add color to a black and white photo? I have seen pictures where a certain color, like red on a hairbow, was pulled out of the black and white picture...I want to do this with some of my daughters pics, is there a program for it or what?? Please help!!

I do it in Photoshop Elements. You start with a color photo, copy to a new layer, then change the top layer to black and white. Then on the top layer select the area you want to view as color and delete it - the color bottom layer will show through.

Years ago I used photo oils to add color to black and white photos...as you have been told it depends on if it is an existing photo or one in your computer........good luck!

There are so many ways to do this but the least expensive and easiest way is Microsoft Digital Image Suite. You can get the program on ebay for about $12. Take your color photo copy it paste another on top of the color one. Turn that to black and white (adjust your level balances) and then highlight the area you want color and transparency it to the point that you want the color to show through. 100% for bright color but less if you want it subtle. Have fun! The more expensive route is Adobe, but it is also more complicated!
Of you can send it my direction and I will do it for you when you order Christmas cards from http://www.beautifulbabybirthannouncements.com/category_3... Once I am done, you can keep the image for your use.
Have a great day!

I use Corel Paint Shop Pro. I'm not sure if you can get a free version online, but you might want to check Download.com and see.

I heard that they have markers for things like that...they are specifically for black and white photos...if u think u might mess them up...try illustrator photoshop...thats what my husband uses to fix his pictures...Good luck

Merry Christmas and many blessings

As Abbi, said, I think you need to start with a color photo. It's the only way I know how to do it. It is pretty easy in Photoshop Elements.

There are two ways I would suggest: one digital; one manual.

Digital you will need to start with a color photo. There are different techniques. I love Picasa which is free to download from Microsoft. It's even better than may of the products I've purchased.

Manually you can use ink and a plastic tip. You just color in the areas use wish. Recollections and Michaels carry the Tim Holtz inks (Adirondack), tips and instruction manuals. This technique adds the antique look, which is less stark than using actual markers.

Have fun!
